Christmas Miracle: Baby Survives After Being Carried Off by Tornado

Tornado leaves trail of death, destruction ,fast moving storms hit almost without warning

There’s a lot of bad news in America right now, but the Christmas season is a great time to remind everyone that miracles still happen. A family in Clarksville, Tennessee just experienced one of those worst-nightmare scenarios earlier this month. A tornado completely destroyed their home, and their 4-month-old baby was carried off by the twister. A short time later, the family got the best possible news that they could have hoped for.

This happened on December 9th. Clarksville was hit with an EF-3 tornado, with winds up to 165 miles per hour. Sydney Moore was at home with her boyfriend and their two children, a 1-year-old and a 4-month-old, when the tornado hit their mobile home park.

The first thing that happened was the tornado ripped the roof completely off their trailer. Sidney’s boyfriend ran for the bassinet where the 4-month-old was sleeping. He grabbed onto the bassinet right as the tornado lifted both of them off the ground and carried them away. Sidney did the only thing she could think of at the time. She threw herself on top of the 1-year-old as the rest of the home caved in on top of her.

“Something in me just told me to run and jump on top of my son,” Sydney told WSMV. “Literally the moment I jumped on him, the walls collapsed.”

The tornado was gone as quickly as it arrived, but it had destroyed everything the family owned. Sidney was able to push her way out from under the debris with the 1-year-old, but she was expecting the worst. She’d just watched the father of her babies and her 4-month-old carried away by a terrible storm.

The storm knocked down a nearby tree. As Sidney was searching for her loved ones, she found the 4-month-old lying in the branches, mostly unharmed.

“I thought he was dead,” said Sidney. “I was pretty sure he was dead, and we weren’t going to find him. But he’s here, and that’s by the grace of God.”

The baby had a minor cut on one of his ears that doctors were able to glue together. Sidney’s boyfriend suffered a broken arm and a broken shoulder but is otherwise okay.

That’s enough of a Christmas miracle for this family right there, but what happened next is also amazing. Sidney’s sister posted a GoFundMe campaign to help out the family. They lost everything in the tornado, including their home and all their possessions. Even their car was destroyed, and they didn’t have any insurance to cover the losses.

In a little over a week, generous Americans donated more than $100,000 to help restore this little family that lost everything.

America is still a great country. Miracles still do happen. Merry Christmas!
