After a group of Congressional Democrats staged an insurrection at an immigrations and customers enforcement (ICE) detention facility in New Jersey two weeks ago, demanding the illegals in the facility be freed while trespassing and attacking law enforcement officers who tried to stop them, one of the Democrat politicians has now been CHARGED for their crimes – something previously unheard of!
Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) has been charged with assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers the riot at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba revealed that Congresswoman McIver was being charged. Secretary Noem stated, “no one is above the law.”
“After a thorough review of the video footage of Delaney Hall and a full investigation from HSI, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey had made the determination to charge Congresswoman LaMonica McIver for assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers,” Noem wrote in a post on X.
Noem continued, “No one is above the law. If any person, regardless of political party, influence or status, assaults a law enforcement officer as we witnessed Congresswoman McIver do, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
“We thank our brave ICE law enforcement officers for their service to this great nation,” Noem added.
McIver was joined by fellow Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (also a Democrat) who claimed they were there to “conduct federal oversight” of the facility, before storming past the ICE officers and shoving them out of the way.
Baraka ended up being arrested for criminal trespass, though the charges against him were dropped.
Habba announced in a press release that her office had “agreed” to dismiss Baraka’s misdemeanor charge of trespass and added that she had invited him to tour Delaney Hall.
“After extensive consideration, we have agreed to dismiss Mayor Baraka’s misdemeanor charge of trespass for the sake of moving forward,” Habba said.
“In the spirit of public interest, I have invited the mayor to tour Delaney Hall. The government has nothing to hide at this facility, and I will personally accompany the mayor so he can see that firsthand.”
Habba points out that McIver, on the other hand, “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1),” adding that her “conduct cannot be overlooked.”
McIver responded to these charges by doing what Democrats do best – playing the victim!
The lawbreaking Democrat claimed that the charges are “purely political” and a “distortion” of her actions.
“Earlier this month, I joined my colleagues to inspect the treatment of ICE detainees at Delaney Hall in my district,” McIver said. “We were fulfilling our lawful oversight responsibilities, as members of Congress have done many times before, and our visit should have been peaceful and short. Instead, ICE agents created an unnecessary and unsafe confrontation when they chose to arrest Mayor Baraka. The charges against me are purely political—they mischaracterize and distort my actions, and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight.”
For too long, Democrats have felt that for some reason they are “above the law.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently threatened that there would be “hell to pay” if any of her fellow Democrats were charged for their unlawful acts at the federal facility.
But President Donald Trump’s administration is sending a CLEAR message that the days of Democrats being considered “untouchable are DONE!”
