Democrat mayors and governors are imposing new rules on their cities and states in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, they clearly aren’t putting nearly as much priority on following their own guidelines.
Washington, D.C. Mayor Democrat Muriel Bowser made this point abundantly clear by attending a crowded wedding without a mask just after her mask mandate went into effect. To further accentuate her contempt for COVID-19 restrictions, she posed unmasked with comedian Dave Chappelle after announcing her mask mandate — but right before the mandate took effect.
The event, a sold-out concert at an indoor venue, required mask-wearing even though the mask mandate had not taken effect, but Muriel Bowser apparently didn’t think it was important to bother with such a rule.
Ms. Bowser has tried to excuse her behavior by stating that she was eating at the time the maskless photo of her was taken. However, the photo clearly shows her and other wedding attendees at a table facing forward, listening to a speech. Most of the other attendees, who are also facing forward listening to someone speak, are also mask-less. Other wedding guests posed for photos together without a mask, and the mayor apparently never bothered to mention that they should be following local regulations.
Rather than realize the hypocrisy of mandating masks for all the “little people” while going without one, Bowser and her office has attempted to distract attention from her actions and instead emphasize her call for everyone to get vaccinated and wear masks.
While Mayor Bowser parties on mask-less with her friends, small business owners in the nation’s capital are struggling to follow her orders even though doing so could cost them their livelihood. The Flow Yoga Center, for instance, has noted that sign-ups fell by 50 percent after the new mask mandate. Others are concerned that requiring all patrons to wear masks indoors will discourage business at a time when new PPP loans aren’t available to tide companies over the hump.
Democrat politicians have long made it clear that the rules don’t apply to them. House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Maxine Waters, Governor Ralph Northam, and Governor Gavin Newsom are just some of the many senior Democrats who have made it a point to flout COVID-19 guidelines while strictly imposing them on the masses. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has now joined their ranks, and the excuses her office give for her obvious rule-breaking behavior will only infuriate those who struggle without special protection.
