Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz blasted Democrat deflection on defunding the the police during a Senate floor speech on Thursday, calling it “a cynical and calculated lie.”
“I rise today to discuss facts and fiction. Recently, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki about a Biden administration official’s claim that Republicans have defunded the police by not voting to pass Biden’s wasteful $1.9 trillion stimulus bill,” Cruz began in his Senate remarks.
“Psaki doubled down on the idea that it is Republicans and not Democrats who want to defund the police. When a White House press secretary gives a press briefing, you expect some spin, you expect some verbal bobbing and weaving if the topic is unflattering to the administration. But when Jen Psaki tried to blame Republicans for defunding the police, it wasn’t spin. It was horse manure, it was gaslighting,” Cruz added.
Cruz proceeded to chronicle examples of Democratic efforts to defund the police, saying, “For over a year, Democrats and left-wing activists have been calling over and over and over again to defund the police, and many Democrat-led city councils and Democrat mayors have done so, cutting and even slashing police budgets.”
The senator continued, “As a result of those reckless policies, we are seeing a deeply concerning wave of violent crime in American cities across the country.”
On the positive side, Cruz also added his personal thanks to law enforcement during his Senate speech.
“The fact of the matter is Republicans are proud to support the police, to stand with the men and women in blue. While Democrats are demonizing and vilifying the brave men and women of law enforcement, I want to say thank you to every law enforcement officer in this country.”
The senator added, “On the federal level, on the state and local level, thank you for answering the call each day, putting on the uniform, wearing the badge, and risking your life to keep us safe.”
The words well state the need of the moment. Defunding the police should be a crime, not a social justice movement. Cities that that have attempted to decrease police budgets have often paid the price through increased crime and the loss of good police officers.
Worse, some cities that have decreased police budgets to “defund the police” have now been forced to increase their recruiting budget to attract new police officers. They’re finding out that mistreating those who protect their communities leads to good officers leaving and a force in need of more assistance.
As Cruz stated, police officers “answer the call.” An officer doesn’t just show up for work. He or she puts on the badge and places their life on the line each day in the town where they live. The least we can do is stop belittling their efforts and support the noble work they do to protect our communities.
Biden’s Administration and his Socialist followers definitely were the instigators for “Defunding The Police” ! All of those protesting rioters who were looting during BLM were all for defunding the police and Biden Administration did not say one single thing to stop it. The livelihoods of so many good American citizen business owners (did not matter if the business owner was black or white, or any other color) with the destruction they have caused. Any one person who wants to defund the police should not have any police arrive at their home in their time of need ! Maybe we should start a list of Defunders so that the Police will know that they do not want to be assisted in the Defunder’s time of need ! BTW – Circle Around Jen Psaki makes me want to vomit every single time I see her face ! God Bless America !!!

Separating our nation was the only campaign the Biden Administration used in the 2020 election. They disgust me.
We applaud you Ted for speaking out for the rest of us that value & respect our law enforcement officers. I can’t imagine why anyone in this day & time would want the job. We need more of our Republican law makers to stand for what their constitutes want & not what they think will get them ahead politically. We are behind you & praying for you to continue to stand strong.

Allowed a false narrative to move forward rather than go on TV immediately and stop it! AG Antifa Ellison had admitted, if weren’t for public opinion, Chauvin would never have been tried. Walz allowed the city to burn for 4+days! Based on a lie! Had the officer been black, perp white…do ya think that gal would have stopped to video? Most likely not. Walz IS ground zero for the entire mess! then Frightened Frey, BLM Carlson- no backbone to stand up and say was NOT race-related…wait. Innocent until proven guilty. Looked bad, yes, but camera angle, knee on shoulder blade 90% of the time. AND was a trained hold, especially for drug-induced hysteria. Had thug Floyd just cooperated, like he did the year before- when arrested, drugged up, and crying wolf then too.
