President-Elect Donald Trump has been throwing out so many ideas at once that his enemies are now chasing their own tails. They don’t know what he’s going to propose next, so the Deep State and the Enemy of the People Media cannot mount a proper defense against anything he’s doing.
Since the election, Trump has been talking about taking over Greenland, regaining control of the Panama Canal, and annexing Canada as the 51st state. The first two ideas are great, but Canada? That would be a seriously bad move for the United States. We hope that Trump is just joking about Canada. (Please be joking, Mr. President!)
America built the Panama Canal between 1910 and 1914. We lost 5,600 American workers to accidents and disease to carve that canal through the jungles of Panama. Jimmy Carter relinquished control of the canal to the Panamanian government in 1977. It was the sort of “America Last” blunder that we can all easily identify now that Trump has reordered the universe and the way that everyone thinks about foreign and domestic policy. Why would we give up the Panama Canal?
The Panamanian government supposedly controls the canal, but that’s not the important part of this story. The Cristobal Port is the Atlantic Ocean entry to the canal. The Balboa Port is the Pacific Ocean entry to the canal. A communist Chinese company called Hutcheson-Whampoa controls both of those ports.
The communist Chinese government controls shipping through the canal. They decide whose ships get to go through it first and whose ships have to wait when things get busy. The Communist Chinese Party (CCP) makes money off the canal that America built. It’s a great idea for America to take back control of it. We built it, and it was not Jimmy Carter’s to give away.
Greenland is cool, too! They’re currently a territory of Denmark, but why not make Greenland a US territory? It’s not as if Denmark is using it for anything. They have a Christian population of 56,000 people and they speak English, so they’re much better people than the garbage H-1B visa workers that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy want to flood America with.
Greenland is a huge land mass that has a tiny population. They’ve got an insane amount of natural resources that Denmark is too weak and irrelevant to exploit. There are massive amounts of oil, timber, and mineral resources in Denmark.
Plus, it would be a great strategic national security bonus if America took over. It’s also incredibly beautiful, so Trump is probably thinking of the potential for tourism to Greenland.
Plus—and this is the most important thing—Greenland has too small a population to become a US state. They’d only be a territory like the US Virgin Islands, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
But Canada? Ugh! Yuck!
Why would we want to annex Canada? Seriously?
First of all, Canada is too big to be just a single state. We’d have to divide it up into five different states based on the five provinces up there currently. That means we would be adding one sort-of red state to the electoral college map (Alberta) and four blue states to the map. Why would we give the Democrat Party four new states and only one for ourselves?
I mean, sure, that sort of math would be standard operating procedure for the Republican Party of old. But we’re no longer the Stupid Party these days. We’re the Donald Trump Party.
Even Alberta would be more of a Lindsey Graham style of “red” state, rather than a Marjorie Taylor Greene style. They would be a constant disappointment and by adding four blue states to the mix at once, it would make it immensely difficult if not impossible for any Republican to win the White House again.
Not to mention the fact that the Bush dynasty and the Clintons already tried to set up a North American Union economic zone—and we all hated the idea!
So, the Panama Canal and Greenland are cool. But Canada needs to remain French or whatever they are up there. I’m a solid “No” on the idea of Canada becoming part of the US.
