Left Cries “Free Speech” Only When Convenient

For over a decade, the left has led a relentless cancel crusade—tearing down anyone who dared to speak outside the approved narrative. They called it “accountability.” They called it “consequences.” But now, when one of their own gets benched, suddenly it’s a free speech crisis.

Case in point: Jimmy Kimmel. The late-night host, known for mocking conservative values and pushing liberal talking points, was recently suspended from ABC after making a disgraceful remark about Charlie Kirk. Following Kirk’s tragic death, Kimmel claimed the shooter was “one of the MAGA gang” trying to score political points. That’s not comedy. That’s cruelty. But now, leftists are crying foul, accusing conservatives of hypocrisy.

Even Barack Obama chimed in, accusing the Trump administration of targeting media voices. That’s rich, coming from the same crowd that cheered when people were fired from their jobs for not wanting to take an experimental vaccine, or when every social media platform kicked Donald Trump off after January 6th.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane, shall we?

Back in 2018, Roseanne Barr’s show was the most-watched program on television. Her revival was a hit. But one tweet—deemed offensive by the left—was all it took. ABC canceled her show, and she was thrown off the air overnight. Where were Obama’s free speech concerns then? Funny, he didn’t say a word.

And let’s not forget Gina Carano, the actress from Disney’s “The Mandalorian.” She was fired for expressing conservative opinions about COVID-19 policies and gender pronouns. Disney called her views “abhorrent,” proving that only one kind of speech is tolerated in Hollywood.

Tucker Carlson, one of the most popular voices in news, was ousted from Fox News in 2023. Why? Because he questioned the January 6 narrative. According to Carlson, his firing was a term in Fox’s settlement with Dominion Voting Systems. That’s not journalism—it’s censorship through corporate blackmail.

Alex Jones? Wiped off the internet in one sweep. YouTube, Apple, Spotify, Facebook—all banned him. No trial, no debate, just erased. Like him or not, free speech means tolerating voices you disagree with. Liberals used to say that. Now, they mean it only when it protects their own.

Even J.K. Rowling, a lifelong liberal, was blacklisted from her own “Harry Potter” reunion because she dared to say that men aren’t women. That’s it. No slurs. No threats. Just a belief that biology is real. The mob came for her anyway.

Megyn Kelly? Fired for saying that Halloween costumes should be judged by intent, not skin color. She didn’t defend blackface—she questioned the hysteria. But the left made her an example.

And Glenn Beck? He was forced off Fox News after Media Matters led a boycott of his advertisers. Beck had millions of viewers, but that didn’t matter. The left wanted him gone, and they got their wish.

So no, liberals don’t get to play the victim now. They built this cancel culture. They sharpened the tools. They set the rules. And now that one of theirs is finally facing consequences, they want to change the game.

Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. Free speech isn’t just for comedians who mock conservatives. It’s for everyone. But if the left wants to defend Jimmy Kimmel, they’d better be ready to apologize to every person they tried to destroy—and that list is long.

Until then, spare us the lectures. We’ve been hearing them for ten years, and we’re not buying the act anymore.
