Nancy Pelosi is finally stepping away from politics. At 85 years old, she says she won’t run for reelection in 2026. That means her career, which began during Ronald Reagan’s presidency, is finally coming to an end. And while we can all breathe a little easier knowing she will no longer be running the show, we should also be paying close attention to who’s coming up behind her. Because as bad (read: effective for the Democrats) as Pelosi was, what’s coming next could be far more radical.
Pelosi grew up in Baltimore, the daughter of a powerful congressman. She married Paul Pelosi and moved to San Francisco in the late 1960s. That’s where she built her political machine. She was clever, no doubt. She knew how to count votes, twist arms, and get bills passed. But most of what she pushed through Congress made life harder, not better, for everyday Americans.
Let’s go down memory lane. Remember the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act? It sounded good on paper, but it was a win for trial lawyers more than for working women. Then there was Dodd-Frank, a massive financial regulation bill that hurt small community banks and gave us the unaccountable Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. That’s the agency that answers to no one and gets to stick its nose into every corner of American business.
And who could forget her infamous “cap and trade” scheme? It was so extreme that even a Democrat-controlled Senate wouldn’t touch it. That alone tells you how far out on the left Pelosi was willing to go.
Her crowning “achievement” was Obamacare. She worked for over a year to get it passed. She even told the American people, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” That’s not leadership. That’s arrogance. And the result? Higher premiums, fewer choices, and a healthcare system more dependent on government than ever.
The political cost of all this? Democrats got crushed in the 2010 midterms, losing 63 seats. Four years later, after the failed Obamacare rollout, they lost even more. But Pelosi didn’t stop. She came back as Speaker in 2019 and tried to impeach President Trump—twice. Both times, she failed. But she did manage to help Joe Biden spend trillions of dollars, setting off the inflation crisis that helped President Trump make his 2024 comeback.
Pelosi stepped down as Speaker after the 2022 midterms, but she was still pulling strings. She even led the effort to push Biden off the 2024 ticket. That’s the kind of power she held, even when she wasn’t officially in charge.
Now, here’s the scary part. As she leaves, the next generation of Democrats is even more radical. We’re talking about people like Zohran Mamdani, a self-described socialist. Pelosi may have been a left-wing power broker, but she at least knew how to keep her party somewhat grounded. This new crowd? They don’t want to compromise. They want full-blown socialism, open borders, and total government control over your life.
So while it’s tempting to celebrate Pelosi’s exit, we must stay alert. The Democratic Party is moving even further to the left. And as wild as that sounds, it’s already happening. Pelosi was bad enough. What follows her may be much, much worse. And if we don’t stand firm for our values—faith, family, freedom—we risk losing the country we love.
