Joe Biden is vulnerable if former President Donald Trump throws his hat back in the ring in 2024, according to a new study making Democrat strategists very nervous.
A poll conducted by Emerson College from August 30 to September 1 shows that Trump backed by 47 percent of registered voters, compared to 46 percent for Biden. Mainstream news outlets were quick to point out that the poll has a 2.7 percent margin of error. However, the fact that nearly all polls consistently underestimated support for Trump both in 2016 and in 2020 indicates that the overwhelming majority of voters would hand the former President the White House once again if the elections were held this year.
Other match-ups pitched alternate potential Republican candidates against Biden, showing that voters are supporting the former President rather than his current party. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who many believe may run for President in 2024 if Trump doesn’t, has support from only 36 percent of registered voters. Utah Senator Mitt Romney has a measly 23 percent support rating — which is not surprising considering his hostility toward the former president.
President Biden’s support has consistently plummeted for a number of reasons. Many blame his administration for the chaos that ensued in the wake of the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan. Inflation is taking a toll on the economy even as Vice President Kamala Harris urges holiday shoppers to get their gifts now. Dismal job reports like the one seen for August 2021 have become a staple of the Biden presidency.
To make matters worse, a recent Zogby Analytics poll shows that 21 percent of Democrat voters regret voting for President Biden in 2020, as do 29 percent of Republicans who crossed the aisle to vote for the current acting president. Given the fact that the Zogby poll was conducted before America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, it’s safe to say these percentages have likely risen. At present, President Biden has a 51 percent disapproval rating and no way to fix his current, dire predicament. Biden’s recent vaccine mandate announcement is sure to take a chunk out of whatever remains of his likability.
News outlets are claiming that the Democrats can save themselves if they pass the massive $3.5 trillion “soft infrastructure” bill. However, the fallout from printing even more money while inflation runs rampant could cause serious economic problems. Put simply, Democrats have no easy way out of this.
The mainstream news media has long given up any semblance of impartiality. Tech companies have dumped on the former President by denying him access to social media networks. Even so, voters know what it was like to live under President Trump’s term in office, and they know what it’s like to live through the Biden Administration’s continual slip-ups, goofs, mistakes, and miscalculations. Support for President Trump is clearly growing, and there’s no reason to expect that to stop any time soon.
