Republican Senators Marsha Blackburn, Marco Rubio and Tom Cotton called on Dr. Anthony Fauci to resign following recent information regarding his work revealed in thousands of publicly released emails.
“For 16 months we have seen Dr. Fauci withhold information, dismiss plausible explanations of COVID’s origin, and outright lie to Congress,” Rubio told Fox News on Thursday. “He is supposed to be a fact-based public health official, not a pundit distorting the truth to conform with his personal judgment.”
Rubio added, “If President Biden is committed to science and finding the truth about COVID, he needs to fire Fauci.”
Indiana Republican Sen. Mike Braun added, “Americans deserve answers on COVID’s origins. They’re not going to get it from China and the W.H.O. – but there’s intel we have now that Americans need to see.”
Blackburn also wants Big Tech to be investigated in relation to Fauci’s emails. Why? The coronavirus expert had several email conversations with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
“Dr. Fauci was more concerned about himself and his reputation than he was about getting information to the American people in an accurate manner,” the senator said, according to Townhall.
The GOP Senators are following public pressure against Fauci to answer for his changing views regarding the coronavirus. He was involved in research in Wuhan prior to the pandemic, leaving much room for questions concerning potential connections.
The questions are too much to pass up, and Americans need answers. The problem is, Fauci’s friends on the left may come to his rescue rather than siding with Americans.
When White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked whether there was any situation that would lead to Fauci’s firing, her one-word answer was, “No.” Biden and friends are going to be looking for ways to send Fauci packing. The only option that could work is for conservatives to make enough noise to force the issue.
The Buzzfeed FOIA request led to thousands of publicly released emails that have changed the conversation about Fauci’s pandemic handling. There may be more to see. Lawmakers should do more than call Fauci to resign; they need to investigate what really happened.
This is much more than whether Fauci’s advice was correct or not. We’re talking about entire states shutting down, graduations canceled, jobs ended, suicide rates increased and much more due to pandemic shutdowns. If he wasn’t making those recommendations based on accurate information, he deserves much worse than firing. He needs a little “time out” behind bars.
Some have said COVID-19 was the third-party candidate that defeated Trump. The idea can be debated, but it certainly didn’t help. If Fauci and others used the coronavirus for political means, we’re talking about an investigation with far more serious concerns than anything the left has investigated regarding Trump.
Fauci may not take their advice, but he may not have a choice for long. Many legislators are calling for his job or answers from him, likely leading to a future hearing involving the COVID-19 spokesman.
