President-Elect Donald Trump is reportedly going to fire everyone involved with Jack Smith’s team of witch hunters from the Department of Justice on his first day in office. Not only that, the three-time presidential election winner is also planning to appoint multiple investigative teams within the DOJ to investigate the stolen 2020 election.
No wonder people at the DOJ are lawyering up and some are being urged to get their passports updated so they can flee the country before Inauguration Day on January 20th.
Unfortunately, we have to take these allegations with a grain of salt. They’re being reported by Jeff Bezos’s personal blog, The Washington Post. Then again, if someone on the Trump transition team wanted to shake things up and freak out the Department of Justice even more, this would be one way to do it.
We’re trying not to get our hopes up after Trump nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi after Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration. Bondi appointed her campaign manager to try to prosecute George Zimmerman for the justifiable self-defense shooting of Trayvon Martin years ago. That’s not the sort of thing that freedom-loving Americans should overlook, regardless of the fact that Bondi successfully defended Trump against fake impeachment charges.
The Washington Post reports, “President-elect Donald Trump plans to fire the entire team that worked with special counsel Jack Smith to pursue two federal prosecutions against the former president, including career attorneys typically protected from political retribution.”
Oh, boo hoo.
Anytime there is a political change in the White House, most US Attorneys for most districts in the US are asked to turn in their resignation letters on day one. They get fired (asked to resign) so the winning president from the opposite political party can appoint their own cronies to those positions. This only becomes “unprecedented” or “controversial” when a Republican president does it.
There will be a lot of people fired at DOJ on the first day of Trump administration 2.0. That always happens. The media will freak out about how it’s unprecedented for President Trump to fire all those honorable career civil servants who “dindu nuffin” wrong. Just be ready for that conniption fit on day one.
Something that encourages us about this story is that President Trump’s Press Secretary-designate Karoline Leavitt seems to have confirmed it. When she was asked whether Trump plans to fire Smith and his 20+ Joe Biden fans for the baseless investigations into him, here’s how she responded:
“President Trump campaigned on firing rogue bureaucrats who have engaged in the illegal weaponization of our American justice system, and the American people can expect he will deliver on that promise.”
So, that’s encouraging!
One thing that President Trump has kept very close to his chest so far is who he plans to appoint to head up the FBI. Current FBI Director Christopher Wray has been a total disappointment since the day that Trump appointed him during his first term. Wray served as Gov. Chris Christie’s personal attorney during the Bridgegate scandal in New Jersey if you feel like doing a deep dive into his political leanings.
It was Wray and Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland who authorized the FBI to use lethal force against Donald, Melania, and Barron Trump during the illegal and unconstitutional Mar a Lago raid in 2022 (moments after Trump announced that he was running for reelection). FBI Directors serve 10-year terms, so Wray is technically able to remain in that position until 2027 unless President Trump fires him.
We’re all getting anxious to know who Trump will nominate as the new FBI Director, but we shouldn’t hold our breath until he takes office. Trump doesn’t have the authority to fire Wray until he takes office. Maybe Wray will save him the trouble and resign before January 20th.
The most encouraging sign of all is that many career prosecutors at the Department of Justice are hiring defense attorneys right now. They KNOW they’ve done stuff that is likely to land them in federal prison. They KNOW they deserve to be fired and get arrested. Would you just hire a defense attorney out of the blue if there was no reason for it?
