Rep. Ilhan Omar showed up at a Minneapolis ICE facility Saturday claiming she was there to exercise “congressional oversight.”
She was removed shortly after entering.
Now she’s crying about “obstruction” — which is rich coming from someone whose district is ground zero for a $19 billion fraud investigation she’s spent weeks trying to derail.
“Initially Invited In”
Omar’s version of events: she and other lawmakers were “initially invited in” to conduct oversight, then officials came and said “they were rescinding our invitation.”
“It was a blatant attempt to obstruct members of Congress from doing their oversight duties,” Omar complained.
But DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told a different story.
The lawmakers entered the facility “with the explicit goal of ‘hunting down’ ICE officers who they believed may have been staying there.”
That’s not oversight. That’s intimidation.
The New Rule
The Trump administration imposed a requirement that lawmakers give ICE facilities one week’s notice before visits.
Omar showed up without notice, apparently hoping to catch agents off guard — potentially the same agents who’ve been shot at and had cars driven at them during Minneapolis operations.
Federal officials say the rule complies with federal law because funding for the facility comes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act rather than congressional appropriations.
Omar can schedule a proper visit with advance notice. She chose confrontation instead.
“Transparency and Accountability”
Omar had the audacity to lecture about transparency and accountability in taxpayer spending.
“When we appropriate funds as members of Congress, we are expected by the public to do oversight because the public requires their money be used with transparency and accountability.”
This is the same Ilhan Omar whose district saw $19 billion stolen through fake daycares, autism centers, and healthcare facilities. The same Omar who’s done nothing to investigate that fraud. The same Omar who called the journalist who exposed it a conspiracy theorist.
She wants transparency from ICE. Where’s her transparency about the billions stolen in her backyard?
The Fraud Under Her Nose
Omar represents Minneapolis — ground zero for what may be the largest welfare fraud in American history.
Somali-linked facilities billed for services that didn’t exist. Billions flowed to fake daycares. Money disappeared overseas or into unknown channels.
This happened in Omar’s district. Under her watch. With her community at the center of it.
Has Omar demanded oversight hearings on the fraud? Has she called for accountability? Has she done anything except attack the federal agents investigating it?
No. She’s been too busy calling ICE agents murderers and trying to “hunt them down” at their facilities.
“Murder” vs. “Domestic Terrorism”
After Renee Good drove her car at ICE agents and was shot in self-defense, Omar called it “murder” caused by “state-sanctioned violence.”
The Department of Homeland Security called it what it actually was: “an act of domestic terrorism.”
Video shows Good accelerating toward agents. Her wife shouted “Drive, baby, drive.” An agent defended himself against vehicular assault.
Omar saw the same video. She called it murder anyway.
This is who’s demanding “oversight” of ICE operations — a congresswoman who calls self-defense against terrorism “murder.”
What “Hunting Down” Means
DHS said Omar entered the facility to “hunt down” ICE officers.
Think about what that implies.
Agents have been shot at in multiple states. They’ve had cars driven at them. Protesters have surrounded their vehicles. Activists track their movements and publish their locations.
Now a member of Congress shows up unannounced to “hunt down” agents at their facility — potentially where they sleep after conducting operations in a hostile city.
That’s not oversight. That’s targeting. And the facility was right to remove her.
The Protest Connection
Omar’s visit came after “leftist groups mobilized to protest ICE in cities across the nation” following the Minneapolis shooting.
Those groups include ICE Watch Minneapolis, which trains activists to physically interfere with arrests. Twin Cities Ungovernables, which calls for arson and confrontation. Indivisible, which coordinates nationwide protests.
Omar aligns with these groups. She echoes their rhetoric. She provides congressional legitimacy to their narrative that ICE agents are murderers.
Showing up at an ICE facility to “hunt down” agents fits the pattern perfectly.
Article I Duties
Omar invoked her “Article I duties” to justify demanding access.
Article I gives Congress legislative and oversight authority. It doesn’t give individual members the right to show up at any federal facility without notice and demand entry.
Proper congressional oversight involves committee hearings, scheduled visits, formal requests through appropriate channels. It doesn’t involve ambushing facilities where agents are staying during hostile operations.
Omar knows this. She’s not stupid. She wanted the confrontation, not the oversight.
The Real Obstruction
Omar accuses the administration of obstructing her oversight duties.
The real obstruction is happening in her district — where massive fraud flourished for years because nobody investigated, nobody demanded accountability, nobody exercised oversight.
Where was Omar’s oversight when billions were being stolen? Where were her facility visits to fake daycares? Where were her demands for transparency about fraud in the Somali community she represents?
Nowhere. She was silent. Or worse — dismissive of anyone who raised concerns.
Now she wants to lecture ICE about accountability.
Consequences for Omar?
Omar tried to “hunt down” federal agents at a facility during ongoing operations. She was removed. She’s framing herself as the victim.
Will there be consequences? Probably not. She’ll fundraise off the incident. Progressive media will celebrate her “confronting” ICE. Her base will love it.
But the rest of America sees what’s happening: a congresswoman who ignores $19 billion in fraud in her district while trying to intimidate the federal agents investigating it.
That’s not oversight. That’s obstruction.
And Omar is the one doing it.
