It’s impossible to predict what’s going to happen in the 2024 Democrat presidential primary this year, but we know it’s going to be weird. Joe Biden has given no indication that he’s not going to run. Kamala Harris supports that decision for obvious reasons. Yet behind the scenes, Democrat Party donors, Members of Congress and even voters are hitting the panic button.
Based on polling, if the election were held today, Donald Trump would win about a 330 to 210 electoral college vote. And Gavin Newsom is suddenly hinting that there’s no way he’s going to step in.
We realize that everyone is getting fussy about Michelle Obama and is somehow worried about her. Everyone from Steve Bannon to Roger Stone is claiming she could jump in the race, and she’s going to be a formidable foe for Donald Trump.
No, she’s not. Michelle Obama is right where she wants to be in life. She’s rich and she has servants waiting on her hand and foot. She can hang out at whichever mansion she wants to, in order to avoid her gay husband.
If she were to jump in the race now, she’d have to hit the campaign trail and travel all across the country. She’d have to memorize speeches and talking points. She’d have to sit for a bunch of interviews where she might be asked a difficult question, like, “How long have you known that your husband smokes crack and has gay sex with men?”
That all sounds like work, and she’s been allergic to work for many years. She’s not running.
As for Gavin Newsom… he’s starting to sound like he’s not running, either.
During Newsom’s most recent interview, Newsom claimed that Joe Biden had given the world a “masterclass” in how to govern.
“There’s simply no administration in my lifetime that’s been more effective,” he bleated.
That statement right there is a pretty clear indication that Newsom has no intention of running. Why would he heap such praise on the disastrous Biden-Harris regime if he had any intention of running against them? If he was going to run, he’d be delivering—at best—backhanded compliments toward them. At worst, he’d be criticizing Biden for the economy, the open border, the state of the military—take your pick.
The fact that Newsom has ZERO complaints about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is a big tell that he’s not running. He’s playing the long game.
It makes sense when you think about it. Joe Biden has mismanaged the country so badly that it will take years to recover from it. Why would Newsom want to step into the middle of that hot mess? It’s better to let someone like Donald Trump come along and clean the place up a bit, and then run in 2028 when the presidency is an open seat again. This allows Newsom to look like a party loyalist, while he patiently sharpens his knives and waits his turn. He may want to wait and try to be the cleanup batter after a better and more competent president fixes some of Biden’s messes.
Of course, we all thought Ron DeSantis was going to do the same thing and look how that’s worked out.
The Newsom-jumping-in-the-race plan also doesn’t take Kamala Harris into account. How would the white-as-snow Gavin Newsom justify running against a magical woman of color in 2024? Although she gave it a monumental effort, Jill Biden hasn’t come up with a way to get Kamala out of office. It would take something truly historic to get both Kamala and Joe to leave office before October 16th. That’s the date when states begin cutting off the opportunity to jump into the presidential primaries. If you’re not in by then, you can’t get on the ballot.
With every day that passes, it’s looking more and more like the Democrats are stuck with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They’ve done such a terrible job that it’s looking like Trump could be headed toward a landslide in 2024—even if they manage to throw him in prison. If Gavin Newsom is not running, and Michelle Obama is not running, then what does that leave the Democrats with? Pete Buttigieg?
