More than $560,000 in cryptocurrency earmarked for Hamas just got intercepted by the Department of Justice. The servers are seized. The domains are gone. And the DOJ now has the names and identities of thousands of people who tried to funnel money to a designated terrorist organization.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced the operation this week, and she didn't mince words. "My office just struck a massive blow against foreign terrorism in seizing over $560,000 in crypto and dismantling Hamas' online recruitment by seizing their servers and their domains," Pirro said, as reported by Breitbart.
The operation specifically targeted the financial pipeline feeding the Al-Qassam Brigades — Hamas's military wing. The FBI tracked encrypted group chats where operatives were sharing cryptocurrency donation addresses, then followed the money. "We were able to directly intercept money that was going to be used by the military wing of Hamas, the Al-Qassam Brigade," Pirro confirmed.
The investigation didn't happen overnight. Activity dates stretch back to March 25, 2025, with additional operations on June 25, 2025, and October 10, 2025. Months of tracking. Months of building a case. Months of watching who was sending what to whom — and then pulling the plug on all of it at once.
But the seizure itself might not even be the biggest piece of this. "We also now have the names and identities of thousands of individuals who tried to give money to Hamas that we were able to intercept," Pirro said.
Thousands of donors. Not a handful of overseas operatives. Thousands of people routed through these channels, and the DOJ now knows who they are.
Pirro had a message for anyone still running money through encrypted networks to terrorist fronts: "Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated for once and for all."
Meanwhile, there's a certain wing of American politics that still can't bring itself to say "Hamas" without immediately pivoting to a lecture about proportionality. We've spent the better part of three years watching elected officials attend rallies where "from the river to the sea" gets chanted like a fight song, where "resistance" is treated as a synonym for whatever Hamas needs it to mean that week. Those same voices have been conspicuously silent about the financial networks feeding the Al-Qassam Brigades.
Crypto was supposed to be untraceable. The encrypted chats were supposed to be secure. The donations were supposed to disappear into the digital ether and come out the other side as rockets and tunnel concrete.
The DOJ just proved that theory wrong to the tune of $560,000 — and handed prosecutors a list of names to work through next.
