Hot Mic Catches Macron Spilling the Beans About His 'Difficult' Chat With Trump — And It's Delicious

French President Emmanuel Macron got caught with his mic on at the G7 summit Monday evening, and the audio is everything you hoped it would be. The slick little Frenchman was overheard telling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he'd had a "difficult discussion with President Trump" — which, in diplomat-speak, means Trump told him how things were going to be and Macron didn't like it one bit.

You almost feel bad for the guy. Almost.

The hot mic moment captured Macron greeting Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit and immediately dishing about his sit-down with Trump. "Yesterday we had a difficult discussion with President Trump," Macron told Zelensky, before pivoting to broker mode and assuring him, "Okay, I will arrange that" — apparently offering to set up a Trump-Zelensky meeting.

Because that's what Emmanuel Macron does. He shows up, he looks fancy, and he pretends he's the one running things.

Here's the thing — Trump doesn't need Macron to arrange anything. When asked separately about the biggest obstacle to peace between Russia and Ukraine, President Trump gave a one-word answer: "Zelensky." No diplomatic fluff. No ten-minute preamble about multilateral frameworks. Just the man's name.

That's the difference between Trump and every other leader at that summit. He says the quiet part out loud — on purpose.

Trump went further, telling reporters he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready to negotiate. "I think he's ready to make a deal," Trump said, before adding the kicker: "I think Ukraine is less ready to make a deal." He also stated flatly that "Russia should make a deal," making it clear he's pushing both sides but isn't blind to who's dragging their feet.

Meanwhile, Zelensky himself seemed to acknowledge reality. "Trump can do it, or only maybe only him," the Ukrainian president said — effectively admitting that the guy Macron was complaining about is the only leader on the planet who can actually broker peace.

Let that sink in. Even Zelensky knows.

The backdrop here matters. U.S.-France tensions have been simmering over trade tariffs, the Iran situation, and Trump's Greenland comments — all of which have Macron clutching his beret in frustration. The February 2025 Oval Office meeting between Trump and Zelensky was already tense enough to make international headlines, and things haven't exactly warmed up since.

Trump described his Tuesday G7 meeting with Zelensky as "very good," which — knowing Trump — means he laid down the terms and Zelensky listened.

So here we are. The most powerful man in the world walks into a room, tells everyone what's what, and walks out. Then the second-tier guys huddle in corners whispering about it when they think nobody's listening. Except somebody was listening. And now we all get to enjoy the show.
