U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has come under heavy fire from Democrats who have grown frustrated with her extreme liberal agenda, obstructionist platform and failure to deliver to constituents.
The growing discord among Democrats has prompted a division among the ranks that political analysts are referring to a as “civil war” within the Democratic Party. Far-left liberals, such as Pelosi have pressured centrists to adopt anti-Trump positions regardless of whether legislation or policies benefit their voting base. Recent primaries saw nationally recognized and popular Democrats such as Sen. Diane Feinstein snubbed by party leaders.
Feinstein was not endorsed by California’s Democratic Party despite being the mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988 and a U.S. senator since 1992. Although she overwhelmingly won a recent primary, numerous far-left opponents challenged the incumbent and the party refused to endorse her.
House Democrats Gunning For Pelosi
The brand of liberal extremism being pushed by Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer have prompted Democrats across the country to push back and oppose Pelosi’s position and leadership. In a recent dust up, U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins has demanded Pelosi’s ouster, citing her failed leadership.
“I will not support her. She’s listening, but this is my conclusion: She’s aloof, frenetic and misguided. I’m giving voice to a frustration that I hear every single day,” he said about talks with fellow Democrats. “I don’t want to call anybody out. But this is the conversation that is taking place.”
Facing an uphill battle in the upcoming mid-term elections, the New York Democrat has taken stock in the fact that the highly touted “Blue Wave” expected to unseat Republicans in Congress failed to deliver optimism after recent primaries and special elections.
Since Pres. Donald J. Trump took office, Republicans have lambasted Democrats in special elections. The rare bright spot was the upstart campaign run by now U.S. Rep. Connor Lamb in Pennsylvania. Running in a region Pres. Trump won by 20 points in 2016, Lamb railed against the unproductive and disconnected policies pushed by Pelosi. In effect, Rep. Lamb was able to sway centrist voters away from his GOP opponent by running against Nancy Pelosi. That reality has not been lost on Rep. Higgins and others.
“Our leadership is out of touch with what is going on, not only in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan but in Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Hamburg, Orchard Park and Lancaster,” Rep. Higgins reportedly said. “When she’s on the floor, she’s all over the place. She’s frenetic. I think she lacks gravitas.”
Democratic Party Coup Simmers
While Rep. Higgins and Rep. Lamb have been particularly vocal about new leadership and direction, a few party members are bravely supporting regime change. Democrats are hesitant to voice opposition to the House mainstay because she is recognized as a consummate donation-getter, and is said to punish those who oppose her politically.
It has been widely reported that Pelosi has ambitions of regaining the majority in the House and the Speakership. That future has prompted more party members to step forward.
“Our leadership does a tremendous job,” California Rep. Linda Sanchez reportedly said, “but I do think we have this real breadth and depth of talent within our caucus, and I do think it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, and I want to be a part of that transition. I want to see that happen.”
Rep. Sanchez has recently leveled blame for the Democrats’ shortfall at Pelosi, Hoyer, and assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn.
As the fifth highest ranking House Democrat and a caucus vice chair, Rep. Sanchez stands in a short line to top leadership herself.
“We have too many great leaders here that don’t always get the opportunities that they should, and I would like to see that change,” she reportedly said.
In response to the growing coup that could unseat her as the mid-term elections draw nears, Pelosi has dug in her heels. She has no intentions of stepping down, stepping aside or passing on the leadership mantle to a generation of Democrats that are looking to define themselves as more than the “party of never Trump.”
“We will win. I will run for speaker. I feel confident about it. And my members do, too,” Pelosi reportedly said.
With economic and employment numbers through the roof and a peace treaty in the works with North Korea, Nancy Pelosi truly appears out of touch with reality.
