President-Elect Donald Trump has been on a job-saving spree ever since his victory in early November. There’s been a great deal of debate among the many people supporting him as he’s has begun announcing possible appointments for his cabinet members. A lot of accusations are being flung about that he has already abandoned his constituents by aligning himself with establishment insiders. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
In just a month and a half Trump has managed to fill a staggering 15 cabinet positions for his upcoming administration. Here is a list of nominations Trump has made for various positons:
- Attorney General: Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala. – announced Nov. 18
- Education Secretary: Betsy DeVos – announced Nov. 23
- Secretary of Health and Human Services: Rep. Tom Price – announced Nov. 28
- Secretary of Transportation: Elaine Chao – announced Nov. 29
- Secretary of Treasury: Steven Mnuchin – announced Nov. 30
- Secretary of Commerce: Wilbur Ross – announced Nov. 30
- Secretary of Defense: Gen. James Mattis (Ret.) – announced Dec. 1
- Secretary of HUD: Dr. Ben Carson – announced Dec. 5
- Secretary of Department of Homeland Security: Gen. John Kelly
- Chief of Staff: Reince Priebus – Appointed Nov. 13
- Ambassador to the United Nations: Gov. Nikki Haley – announced Nov. 23 (requires Senate confirmation)
- Administrator of Small Business Administration: Linda McMahon – announced Dec. 7
- Administrator of Environmental Protection Agency: Scott Pruitt – announced Dec. 7
- National Security Advisor: Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.) – announced Nov. 18
- CIA Director: Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan. – announced Nov. 18. (requires Senate confirmation)There’s a lot of diversity in this lineup- and you’d think Liberals would be happy about that, but they haven’t seemed to notice. They’ve been more focused on the fact that they claim to believe he’s betraying his support base by appointing people with strong establishment ties.
All of this comes in tandem with the President-Elect making groundbreaking deals that have already begun to create jobs for Americans. There’s the Carrier deal, of course. This saved 1000 jobs outright for current Carrier workers, jobs which would otherwise have been shipped to Mexico. The plans were all laid out and announced to their workforce when Donald Trump met with Carrier execs. and dramatically turned them around.
How did he do it? It’s shockingly simple, really. He has made it clear that importing products created by people working outsourced jobs would come with significant tariffs, negating the cost benefits of exporting jobs for these NAFTA advantaging companies.
You might think this would be enough, and for a president who’s not really committed to saving jobs- a president who just wants to gain political support by appearing to try to save jobs- it would probably be satisfactory. After all, once he had done something so obviously ‘pro-middle class,’ if the initiative should fail- there would be plenty of blame to place on his political opponents.
But this is just one of the points where Donald Trump sets himself apart. He isn’t satisfied with only gesturing support for real hard working Americans. That’s why he also offers major tax incentives to these same corporations in order to encourage them to bring jobs back. That’s a very important move, because, without the incentives, his actions would be rightly seen as hostile toward business. Rather than only punish companies for exporting jobs- he also rewards them for not exporting jobs.
Now, just when we thought Carrier might just be a one-off for Trump, he makes a deal with a Japanese telecommunications giant to create a projected 50,000 jobs. And, of course, Ford is already an early- self-appointed- member of the growing number of companies eager to get in on Trump’s job-saving feeding frenzy.
At present, companies are chomping at the bit to get a taste of Trump’s very attractive job-saving initiatives. What does that mean for Trump’s cabinet picks? Well, at this point, you can bet that it means if they don’t help grease the pipes to save and create even more jobs and revitalize the flagging economy- they’re probably going to hear the former reality star president deliver his signature line, “You’re fired!”
That’s exactly what happened to the heads of CNN and other major main stream media executives at a meeting in Trump Tower last month. The media heads were eager to meet with Trump and hear about all the special access they expected their networks to get.
Instead, Mr. Trump gloriously denounced them all in no uncertain terms, called them liars, and made it very clear that they would be getting no special favors from him.
And that is why Trump’s supposedly questionable cabinet had better fall in line with his job-saving ideas, otherwise- you know what.
