It’s odd that a leading member of a party that claims to champion women’s rights can’t even bring herself to say the word “woman.” It’s particularly odd that the person who can’t bring herself to speak the word is actually a woman who was talking about the need to provide better medical care for pregnant women.
Plenty of social media users mocked Rep. Bush’s ridiculous use of the term “birthing person,” but there are others who agreed with her. NARAL, a rabidly pro-abortion organization that lobbies for fewer restrictions on the procedure, said the term is “inclusive.” One social media user accused people who questioned the use of the term “birthing person” of caring more about the term than the fact that women die in childbirth in the United States.
It’s true that deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth are tragic and everything possible should be done to prevent them. Recent statistics indicate that, in 2018, about 660 women lost their lives due to pregnancy or childbirth. However, tens of thousands of babies die from abortion every single year and nothing is done to save them. These infants are the same age as Rep. Bush’s premature babies, the same ones that she fought to save.
Unfortunately, Rep. Bush’s party, the same party that claims to care so much about black lives, ignores the fact that African-American babies are continually murdered all the way up to the third trimester of pregnancy. When Senator Ben Sasse introduced a bill that would force doctors to try to save the lives of babies that survived abortion, Democrats shot down his efforts. They then introduced a bill to repeal the “Hyde Amendment” that prevents the government from using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion.
It’s true that doctors should give proper care to ensure getting pregnant and having a baby isn’t a fatal experience. It’s also true that only biological women get pregnant and give birth. While Rep. Bush professes to care so much about the young lives in her community, she is effectively advocating for widespread death in her own backyard.
