People travel to the United States for work, for education, for medical care and for business — and our borders are constantly under pressure from migrants from all over the world, but that’s not enough, according to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The fledgling congresswoman from New York appeared at a recent campaign rally for would-be candidate Bernie Sanders, so she was speaking to a friendly crowd – one that can barely tolerate the country that guarantees them free speech, the right to assemble and even the right to vote. Ocasio-Cortez lashed out against the idea of the United States as an advanced society, instead, she feels we’ve devolved into a fascist nightmare that has only one escape – Bernie Sanders.
During the Venice, CA campaign rally, Ocasio Cortez spoke out against the United States as a world leader, stating that America is far from being the wealthiest, most advanced country in the world. Instead, she claims, the United States is a hotbed of fascism and dangerous right wing culture. Not surprisingly, she was greeted with cheers by the overwhelmingly progressive and adoring audience.
“We need to fight to start this work, the establishment of an advanced society,” Ocasio-Cortez said, neglecting to mention the freedoms and advancements citizens enjoy or the massive numbers of people hoping to become citizens each year.
She also wasn’t happy with the (true) description of the USA as one of the wealthiest nations in the world.
“Because as much as we like to say that the United States is the richest country in modern history…For who?” she continued.
Confusing a political theory and approach (fascism) with wealth and advancement, Ocasio Cortez continued.
“The richest country — who cares about how much gold is being amassed if we can’t realize an advanced society with those resources? We’re here to say that what we’re living in right now is not an advanced society. A society that allows people — it is fascism,” AOC said.
She went on in this vein for several minutes, then brought up President Trump, leading to more applause from the audience. She then lauded Sanders for his ambitious (and expensive) climate change plans, which are the most burdensome and least realistic of all the candidates on the Democratic side. She went on to declare that the devastating Australian wildfires were a result of climate change – and that they would be coming for the rest of the world if the climate was not repaired.
Meanwhile, President Trump spoke to military members about the same topic. He spoke proudly about American excellence and innovation, and about the future.
“We’re the envy of the world right now,” said the president. “Every foreign leader that sees me says ‘congratulations, what are you doing, we’ve never seen anything like it.’ They want to do it too, but it doesn’t work out so well for them. We are doing something that has never been done before and the numbers reflect it.”
