Anti-Trump ‘Tonight Show’ Stung By Ratings Decline

Anti-Trump late night television ratings are down across the board as they join the ranks of CNN and others who bought into the liberal hate agenda.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is undergoing a major shakeup, and the word “turmoil” has been uttered as at least one executive has been ousted. Of the big three late night shows, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert beat Fallon for two years running in the ratings. Perhaps the least articulate but suffering the most significant degree of Trump Derangement Syndrome, Colbert suffered only a 2-percent ratings decline. Fallon was recently stung by a 9-percent ratings plunge, followed by Jimmy Kimmel Live, losing 10 points.

Despite Fallon’s ongoing anti-Trump monologues, questions have been raised that he has simply not been nasty enough. Liberal viewers cannot let go of the fact that Fallon and other hosts were quite friendly with then-citizen Trump for decades before he won the White House. Fallon had then-candidate Trump on the Tonight Show for a friendly, puff interview. Liberals reportedly cannot forgive him for the light-hearted “hair ruffling” that occurred.

“It was definitely a down time. And it’s tough for morale,” Fallon reportedly said in 2018 when the decline began. “There’s 300 people that work here, and so when people are talking that bad about you and ganging up on you, in a really gang-mentality…You go, ‘Alright, we get it. I heard you. You made me feel bad. So now what? Are you happy? I’m depressed. Do you want to push me more? What do you want me to do? You want me to kill myself? What would make you happy? Get over it.’”

President Trump mocked his backpedaling after Fallon touted the huge ratings success of having him on the show. But Fallon is quickly discovering that the left will abandon television stations and personalities that don’t serve their political fury.

Fallon’s decline seems to be part of a larger trend among traditional broadcasters — with one notable exception.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow suffered a sharp viewership loss after the Mueller Report exonerated the president. She had promised absolute impeachment for two years. Fox News continues to be in the cable news driver’s seat year-in and year-out based on accurate reporting. Keeping moderate and conservative viewers appears to be the key to industry success.

CNN, the network most associated with fake news, has fallen into such decline that it has failed to post a show in the Top 20 on cable. When you get trounced by the History Channel and cartoons, that’s embarrassing. But perhaps not as humiliating as the fact that CNN recently fired its Atlanta-based staff in charge of health care.

“As part of the normal course of business, our news-gathering team made a small restructure earlier this week that ultimately impacts 6-7 employees within CNN’s Health Unit,” a CNN spokesperson said. “CNN’s Southeast Bureau in Atlanta, CNN Health and CNN Climate will now be under one leadership, something that was not the case before.”

But the sharp ratings declines have also been accompanied by upwards of 100 employees taking a buyout and others at CNN fearing of pink slips at any moment. Unlike the unfunny late night trio, cable news is not in decline across the board.

Since Fallon apparently offended liberal extremists in 2016, the production team has been looking to fix their diminishing viewers. Fallon brought in showrunner Jim Bell to no avail. And, other long-time loyalists such as producer Katie Hockmeyer have jumped ship. Like the CNN propaganda, the network is trying to make it appear as if she is still with the show.

“Katie is still an employee,” an NBC executive said. “Katie has always been a valued leader in this company. She’s been with Jimmy for 10 years and is beloved by the staff.”

Sources indicate that she is reportedly not on site and showrunner Mike DiCenzo quit. But what has Tonight Show insiders whipped up into a full frenzy is the fact it slipped into number two in the 18-49 demographic for the first time in 25 years. Pandering to the left with anti-Trump sentiments and not-so-funny lines appears to be sending Fallon and company into free fall.

That’s an unenviable position the folks at CNN know well. In a recent quarterly ratings report, Tucker Carlson earned more viewers than the top 2-3 shows at CNN. The bad news, however, was that Hannity was number one at Fox News that quarter. Ouch. Perhaps the best solution would be to merge the Tonight Show with CNN. Neither are worth watching anyway.
