In public, the Bloomberg campaign is acting cocky and self-assured, telling everyone who will listen that the race is really down to only two people – Mike Bloomberg and Sen. Bernie Sanders. However, in private, the campaign is desperate to see centrist rivals quit to prevent Sen. Sanders from amassing too many delegates in the run-up to the Democrat convention.
A recent internal campaign memo makes it clear that it will be all but impossible to stop Sen. Sanders from getting a plurality or even the majority of pledged delegates unless former VP Joe Biden, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar all drop out of the race fairly quickly.
What’s more, the memo denigrates the campaigns of the above-mentioned contenders, stating that none of them have any path to appreciably collecting delegates on Super Tuesday or afterward. The arrogance is hard to miss, given the fact that Mayor Pete won the Iowa caucus, and came in a close second in New Hampshire.
Granted, Bloomberg’s support is on the rise, but there are plenty of reasons for even centrist voters to reject him. The fact that he has allegedly mistreated women who work for him and publicly mocked farmers, factory workers, African-American men, and Latino men will almost certainly make it difficult for him to win support from groups whose votes he needs to be successful.
Naturally, the candidates that Bloomberg is urging to quit have no intention of following his advice. As the recent Nevada debate made clear, the other candidates are more than happy to take Bloomberg down a notch or two, and the arrogant former New York mayor may not be able to handle the heat.
At the same time, it is worth pointing out that the Bloomberg memo is right on one score: time is running out for centrist Democrats who are desperate to stop Sen. Sanders at all costs. The Sanders campaign has effectively consolidated the progressive wing of the party. By contrast, most Americans don’t really see a meaningful difference between Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobachar.
If you’re a conservative, you shouldn’t want any of these people to win. But, consider what’s better for America’s future: a center-left Democratic Party that occassionally argues with us about taxes, or a far-left insurgency bent on destroying capitalism?

It is really sad what the Democratic Party has evolved into. Pandering to everything is free, healthcare, college, daycare are all supposed to be human rights now to be paid for by the wealthy.
