In the final days of former President Donald Trump’s leadership, Middle Eastern nations came to the table to sign peace accords. Joe Biden managed to lose all respect from foreign leaders and the region has descended to chaos.
Iran ramped up its lust for a nuclear weapon by enriching uranium to 60 percent. With Biden implementing the Obama-era lead-from-behind policy of “strategic patience,” Israel was forced to take proactive measures and destroy the enrichment facility. The United States’ influence in the region disappeared as Biden sat on his hands.
His response to Israeli leaders was chastising words against one of America’s most reliable allies. It seems Biden sided with the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism — Iran. To say other unhinged extremists in the region took note of America’s policy reversal would be something of an understatement. Bombs have been flying and the Middle East appears to be on the brink of a full-blown war.
Perhaps the most dangerous attack in years came when Syria recently launched missiles that nearly struck one of Israel’s nuclear reactors. According to reports, the Syrian missile penetrated the Jewish State’s air defenses after targeting an aircraft. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are investigating how the ground-to-air Patriot missile was able to get through its defenses.
“The trajectory of a stray anti-aircraft missile on an unintended descent is very tricky to track,” Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz reportedly said. “Israel’s air defense systems are in theory capable of carrying out such an interception with proper preparation, but it would be at the edge of the capability envelope.”
Other reports indicate that Israel has an ongoing military campaign that targets massing Iranian-backed militia along the Syrian border. Iran has a long and troubling history of funding and training extremists and jihadists that attack Israel and Western democracies. Supporting troops that skirt the borders appears consistent with the rogue nation’s tactics to sow the seeds of discord in the region.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu consistently takes a hardline approach to military defense. His administration promptly responded to the Syrian attack with a targeted reprisal. Although the response appears justified, it furthers a quickening pace of missile attacks between Syria, Iran, and Israel that had all but disappeared before the Biden Administration entered the fray. The shift away from the Trump Administration’s “maximum pressure” position toward Iran will only be exacerbated going forward.
Reports point to Biden caving into Iranian demands that further sanctions be removed before any Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly called the Iran Nuclear Deal, renegotiation begins. The weak Democrat eliminated tough sanctions imposed by former President Trump without requiring the U.S. enemy to stop enriching uranium or its terrorist activities. The latest kowtowing by Biden will only make Iranian leaders appear more powerful to their subjects and empower them to bad ends.
The Trump Administration throttled Iran’s economy and left it isolated. With no sheriff in the White House to demand law and order in the Middle East, it’s bombs away.
