‘Defund the Police’ Movement Prompts Frontlines Officers to Quit

Democrat-run cities are about to become frighteningly more dangerous as experienced law enforcement officers quit their posts in response to a disrespectful “Defund the Police” movement.

In Seattle, the first African-American woman to ascend to chief of police, Carmen Best, handed in her resignation after the City Council defunded the police budget by a shocking $4 million. The left-wing council had no particular reason for the move other than their simmering hatred of the men and women who comprise the thin blue line. Chief Best, a vocal critic of allowing Antifa and other rabble to take over precincts that descended into chaos and murder, made her sentiments clear that this wasn’t business.

“I definitely think it’s personal,” Chief Best said. “This is not about the money, and it certainly isn’t about the demonstrators. I have a lot thicker skin than that. It really is about the overarching lack of respect for the officers. Targeting my command staff and their pay, it just felt very vindictive and very punitive, and I don’t want them to be affected by that type of animus.”

The sweeping Democrat-led Defund the Police movement has no rational basis in public safety. White liberal extremists have drowned out the Black Lives Matter movement and appropriated it for their anti-cop and socialist agendas. Recent polls indicate that more than 80 percent of Black Americans want the same level of police presence in their community or greater. White Americans, by contrast, only advocated for the same or greater police presence by 71 percent, according to recent Gallup research.

It’s obvious Defund the Police has nothing to do with ensuring equal justice for African-Americans and everything to do with anarchist and socialists inflicting pain and suffering in U.S. cities with impunity. Violent protests, arson, looting, and skyrocketing murder rates in Dem-run cities highlight a need for an increased and well-funded police presence. Good families in these urban landscapes will now be even more vulnerable.

“When you have people hellbent on destruction, the police have to find the best way to respond,” Police Executive Research Forum director Chuck Wexler said of Democrats banning the use of non-lethal riot control tools.

Chicago is on a record-breaking murder rate and portions of the city recently were shuttered due to mass riots, arson, and looting. Portland has been under riot siege for months with police recently staring down armed mobs 10 out of 12 nights. New Yorkers are fleeing the city in droves in search of safe communities.

Democrat New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has consistently articulated his disdain for men and women who wear the uniform. After the anti-cop mayor agreed to defund the police budget by $1 billion, retirement filings surged by 411 percent.

“While the decision to retire is a personal one and can be attributed to a range of factors, it is a troubling trend that we are closely monitoring,” a retirement pension spokeswoman reportedly said.

Boots-on-the-ground officers have been vocal about their reaction to the mayor’s financial slap in the face.

“You have to be crazy to stay on a job where you are losing money, abused by the people you are trying to protect and not appreciated by the politicians,” one NYPD officer reportedly said.
