The Green New Deal, if ever implemented, would cost the United States a whopping $93 trillion and destroy the air travel, tourism, and oil/gas industries. It would infringe on individual liberties by forcing Americans to make unwanted upgrades to homes and office buildings in order to make them more environmentally friendly.
Even so, according to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, it doesn’t go far enough.
In a desperate bid to gain attention as her campaign tanks, Sen. Warren has begun calling for a “Blue New Deal” that would end offshore drilling, promote government investment in offshore wind farms, and regulate the fishing industry.
The Massachusetts senator also seems to be in favor of forcing the rest of the world to stop using fossil fuels by banning the export of U.S. oil, a move that would certainly decimate communities throughout the nation.
The announcement is certain to please far-left activists who actually believe that climate change will end the world as we know it in the next ten years. However, it’s hard to see how it will help the Warren campaign.
Sen. Warren is currently promoting herself as the only candidate who can unite both the progressive and centrist factions of the Democratic Party. Claiming the Green New Deal doesn’t go far enough would likely please the progressive wing, but it won’t bring in moderate voters who want a common-sense approach to economic issues. What’s more, the party’s progressives have already shifted their support to Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, so the gimmick of expanding the Green New Deal isn’t going to make much of an impact.
At this point, it’s hard to see why Warren is making any of these bizarre decisions. Judging by her passive debate performances lately, it’s almost as if she’s auditioning to be Bernie’s VP. Apparently, the best way to do that is to portray yourself to be as radical as possible.
The Green New Deal is more than radical enough. It doesn’t need additions to make it even more removed from reality. Remember: we’re talking about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s fantasy bill that bans air travel. Not a single Democrat had the stones to publicly support it when Senate Majority Leader brought it to a vote.
The truth is that Sen. Warren and other progressive hacks are clearly eager to exert as much government control over the electorate as possible. Granted, the world’s oceans do need help as pollution, over-fishing in some areas, and other problems cause serious issues that need to be addressed. But these problems won’t be solved by demolishing successful industries. Actually, the free market may be our best and only hope.
Thankfully, the odds of Sen. Warren actually winning the Democratic nomination, much less the White House, are slim to none. Even so, that doesn’t mean her “Blue New Deal” won’t get unmerited attention or even full-fledged endorsement from the far-left.
