FACT: The Southern Border is Seeing its Largest Illegal Immigration Surge in 20 Years

Among the many, many Executive Orders that President Joe Biden has passed since his first day in office was one that essentially ends the constraints former President Donald Trump put in place to stem the tide of illegal immigrants pouring through our borders. The result? Chaos and Bedlam at the southern border.

In fact, the month of February 2021 saw as many arrests for illegal entry as the entire year of 2020. And that’s the shortest month of the year. Many of the people arriving at the border are wearing printed tee-shirts that say “Biden please let us in.”

While the administration is calling it everything but a “crisis,” the fact remains that resources are limited, stretched thin, and overwhelmed by what is going on at the southern border – especially the surge of unaccompanied minors coming through.

All of this has led to increased claims of Biden placing “children in cages.” While Biden’s press secretary claims, “This is not kids being kept in cages. This is a facility that was opened that’s going to follow the same standards as other facilities in keeping in line with COVID-19 safety protocols.” However, Fox News’ Peter Doocy reports that it is the same facility that the Trump Administration operated for a month — one that was compared to a “concentration camp” by Democrats.

The Biden Administration’s approach also contradicts its message on COVID-19. Despite plummeting death rates and case numbers, the president and his allies really want us all to think that the pandemic remains a major threat to American life. Despite that, they are perfectly happy to allow COVID-positive immigrants into the interior.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released a statement on Twitter, “The unconscionable act of the Biden Administration of releasing COVID-positive illegal immigrants in our state puts the lives of Texans and Americans at risk. Border security is strictly a federal responsibility. The federal government alone has the responsibility to test, screen, and quarantine illegal immigrants crossing our border who may have COVID. Instead of doing their job, the Biden Administration suggested it did not have the sufficient resources and, remarkably, asked Texas to assist them in aiding their illegal immigration program. Texas refused. We will not aid a program that makes our country a magnet for illegal immigration.”

Despite the fact that Customs and Border Protection encountered more than 100,000 “migrants” at the border in February alone, the administration is refusing to acknowledge that this is a crisis. Instead, Psaki is calling it a “big problem” and Biden continues to claim there is “no crisis at the border.”

The men and women working to secure the borders believe differently. In fact, there have been claims of COVID-positive people being placed on buses and sent to other parts of the country, which could set off another rise in COVID cases just as we were beginning to see our first signs of hope with widespread vaccination distributions. The Greyhound bus company CEO has even demanded that those released by DHS to the bus stations show proof that they are COVID-free before transporting them on their buses. Whether the federal government believes it is a crisis or not, the state of Texas understands how real the risks really are.
