Far-Left Progressives Are Using Boycotts to Get What They Want

With the radical wing of the Democratic Party seizing control of the U.S. House following the 2018 elections, the comedy of errors making headlines about boycotts is not surprising.

At the outset of the new Congress, New York socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) garnered national attention as perhaps the least knowledgeable person to ever hold office. Her proposed Green New Deal, along with her reputation, became laughing stocks when not a single member of her own party voted to approve the legislation. In a sensible world, elected officials would run away from her ridiculous rantings. But we do not live in reasonable times. Instead, AOC has been joined by three other freshman extremists to form the so-called “Squad” that has heads spinning as they push to boycott American allies and TV personalities because they are unwelcome abroad.

“It should come as no shock that Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan are unwelcome in Israel, a nation they are taking great pains to tear down. Their latest PR stunt is an attempt to victimize themselves, whitewash history and spin reality — providing even further proof of their worst of intentions,” New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin stated. “The two congresswomen attack Israel while remaining silent on Hamas using women and children as human shields, denying humanitarian aid to its own people, calling jihad an obligation, and launching rockets into Israel that kill innocent civilians.”

For everyday Americans who think the Republican congressman is exaggerating the madness in the U.S. House, think again. Reps. Omar and Tlaib actually brokered legislation to boycott America’s closest ally in the Middle East, Israel. Not only did they and the other Squad members push the disgraceful measure, but they also called on U.S. companies to boycott their Jewish counterparts.

Squad leader AOC took their anti-Semitic hatred one step further by recently claiming terrorist organizations such as Hamas have the moral right to inflict violence on the Jewish people.

“I believe that injustice is a threat to the safety of all people, because once you have a group that is marginalized and marginalized and marginalized — once someone doesn’t have access to clean water, they have no choice but to riot, right,” AOC said of Palestinian aggression toward Israelis.

Not surprisingly, Israel banned Reps. Omar and Tlaib from setting foot on their soil. But after Israel leaders reconsider Rep. Tlaib’s request to visit her ailing grandmother in Palestine, the Squad decided a PR stunt aimed at boycotting the Jewish State was more important than an aging family member.

“[Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu’s discriminatory decision to ban members of Congress from Israel harms int’l diplomacy,” AOC tweeted. “Visiting Israel & Palestine are key experiences towards a path to peace. Sadly, I cannot move forward w scheduling any visits to Israel until all members of Congress are allowed.”

Under Israel policy, anyone who boycotts the country or its companies are disqualified from traveling to the country. Although Jewish organizations pressured Israel to make an exception, the Squad is now taking aim at a TV personality.

HBO comedian Bill Maher, whose mother was Jewish, recently criticized Rep. Tlaib for scuttling the Middle East visit to see her grandmother. The host of “Real Time with Bill Maher” called Tlaib’s anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) attempt a “bull — purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class.” Her response was now to incite other Muslims and liberal extremists to boycott the left-leaning HBO series.

“Maybe folks should boycott his show,” the Muslim representative tweeted. “I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom. This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn’t work then and it won’t now.”

Rep. Tlaib naturally pulled the race card claiming Maher and Israelis are racist white supremacists. Maher was having none of that tired old liberal race-baiting nonsense, and fired back.

“It’s predicated on this notion, I think — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong,” Maher said. “As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied.”

So, four U.S. Congresswomen are boycotting Israel and an HBO TV series, and a top U.S. ally is boycotting them. What exactly did voters get from the 2018 “Blue Wave” that put these Democrats in office? Embarrassment.
