For many Democrats, capitalism is a dirty word. It conjures up feelings of anger at wealthy businesspeople who have dared to climb the ladder of success. Of course, the fact that successful businesspeople employ Americans does nothing to squelch liberals’ opinions of capitalism. They simply believe these industrious individuals are getting richer at the expense of the poor, and should happily dole out their fortunes to the less fortunate.
With leftists decrying capitalism daily, one House Democrat’s recent speech at the BakerHostetler legislative seminar was refreshing. At this event, Democratic Representative Stephanie Murphy, Florida, praised capitalism while lambasting socialism. According to TheBlaze, Murphy said, “I am offended by this whole conversation about socialism. The idea that in the greatest democracy, the greatest capitalist system in the world, we’re having casual conversation about socialism, offends me.”
In front of the crowd of 150, the Congresswoman dared to declare herself a “proud capitalist.” Murphy, whose family fled Vietnam and came to the United States when the Representative was a baby remarked, “It is the system that built us the greatest nation and the greatest economy in the world. Sure, we have to fix the inequities that exist in our system. We have to make sure everybody, no matter what zip code they’re born in, has a fair shot.”
Further explaining her stance, Murphy poignantly remarked, “But it is not the moment to undo the whole system and embrace something that Americans have spent blood and treasure fighting to save other countries from.” The Representative also contrasted her experience living in America with the circumstances of her relatives who still reside in Vietnam. Murphy revealed that she’s even had to send her loved ones basic medical supplies because of shortages in the country.
In her impassioned speech, Murphy didn’t call out any of her fellow Democrats by name. However, some prominent liberals have made significant strides making socialist policies exceedingly popular. This is especially the case with the younger demographic. Last year, a stunning poll steered by the Mari/Blue data firm in coordination with Buzzfeed News showed that almost half, a whopping 48 percent, of millennial Democrats identify as either democratic socialists or socialists. While an additional 22 percent claimed they didn’t identify as either, they responded that they “need to learn more.”
Senator Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Party’s current frontrunner for president, is a self-proclaimed socialist. The 2020 presidential hopeful almost earned the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination the last time around while promising “free” college tuition and universal health care. Alarmingly for supporters of capitalism, Sanders’ popularity hasn’t seemed to wane since his 2016 defeat. The 77-year-old participated in a town hall on Fox News on April 15, 2019. The event was the most watched town hall of the 2020 election cycle. After viewing Sanders’ performance, Republican strategist Karl Rove said he believed Sanders could win the White House in 2020.
Besides Sanders, freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is also a dedicated stalwart of socialist policies. After a mere few months on Capital Hill, Ocasio-Cortez has become a household name. The Representative has an insanely large online following who, along with almost all of the 2020 Democratic presidential contenders, support her proposed Green New Deal. The lofty proposal would shift the U.S. economy to “clean” energy over 10 years. The staggering estimated price tag for the liberal legislation is over $94 trillion according to TheBlaze.
In the not too distant past, Sanders’ and Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist agendas would have been deemed ludicrous even by members of the Democratic Party. The fact that these policies are not only accepted, but embraced, should scare conservatives silly. Kudos to Murphy for having the courage to stand up to the radical left in her party. For those who want America to continue on as a capitalist nation for generations to come, the choice at the ballot box in 2020 couldn’t be clearer.

I remember the days very distinctly when both liberals and conservatives shared an interest in freedoms and loved this country. A country that provided many opportunities and has been created as a Constitutional Representative Republic with a free enterprise economic engine. The greatest economic system ever created by mankind. This system does not guarantee happiness it just secures the right to pursue happiness. So the individual has to provide motivation, energy and desire to succeed. Government does not provide that. Where opportunity exists some are going to prosper much more then others that is only normal. Because it is up to the individual. Along with opportunity is the fact that not everyone succeeds. Therefore, failure is also a factor and government must stay out of the picture and allow failure. Failure many times leads to future successes. A learning process if you will. That is exactly where George Bush failed in his administration. Obama followed in his footsteps in the bailout. And it was all wrong. We all know that now. Hopefully we have learned from our mistake.
I also remember very distinctly when JFK became president he made a statement most so called democrats would not support today. “Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country.” Kennedy was far from a perfect president however, he loved the country and that set him apart from today’s so called democrats. Few if any Kennedy democrats remain today. Most democrats now are socialist democrats or in other words communists, marxist or perhaps fascist. All are based on socialist principles and have never worked, ever!
Obviously Stephanie Murphy is an exception to the rule for a democrat. There is little doubt in my mind she will someday say the same thing Ronald Reagan said; “I did not leave the democrat party it left me.” Only democrats with determination and self confidence have the nerve to say that. I was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. 131 of us graduated from flight school in 1968. 130 of us were in Vietnam 2 weeks later. One guy didn’t have to go because his Dad was already over there. We were told that the life expectancy of a chopper pilot was approximately 12 minutes of flight time. At that time, there was a class like this graduating every 2 weeks. A year later 31 of us came back. I can just imagine the other 99 rolling over in their graves because of the demon-strating socialists who call themselves democrats. “God Help Us”
48% of the Democrats is like 16% of the population. Too large but still small. No socialist candidate has ever gotten more then 8% of the votes (I think his name was Stevens – ran against FDR when FDR first ran – during the great depression when socialism was at it’s peak too). Socialism is, by definition, against the Constitution of the USA so it really should be pressured heavily by all patriots.
