House Votes to Let the FBI Keep Spying on Donad Trump (and You) without a Warrant

Indianapolis - Circa June 2017: Federal Bureau of Investigation Indianapolis Division. The FBI is the prime federal law enforcement agency in the US II

A number of House Republicans fought the good fight this week and tried to reform the corrupt Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which the FBI uses to illegally spy on Donald Trump (and you) without a warrant. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) betrayed his own conference and a total of 126 Republicans voted to keep the current corrupt FISA system in place.

This is yet another disgusting failure of Speaker Mike Johnson, in which he has placed Joe Biden’s priorities over those of the American people.

One of the reforms of FISA that GOP lawmakers were seeking was a requirement for the FBI to get a warrant before it can spy on Americans. The FBI currently doesn’t have to do that, even though it’s a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment. There are all sorts of loopholes and workarounds that FBI agents constantly abuse for a variety of reasons.

An Inspector General report a couple of years ago found that FBI employees had illegally searched an NSA database and spied on Americans in more than 100,000 instances. One employee was running illegal background checks on people before she’d go on dates with them. In case you missed that day in civics class, that’s not an acceptable reason to spy on Americans.

The fact that the NSA has a database that stores every American’s phone calls and text messages is a separate issue (and an important one), but this week’s fight was over FISA.

One of the ways that FISA is abused is that it allows the FBI to surveil any American just for talking with a foreigner on the phone. You might think, “Big deal, I never talk to any foreigners,” but are you sure about that?

Have you called customer service at Amazon or Sears or some other company lately? Because when you were scheduling to have Sears come repair your dryer with Nadhirah Muzzamil in customer service, you were talking to a known terrorist—at least according to the FBI. The files on Nadhirah are all classified top secret, so you just have to take the FBI’s word for it.

That’s all the justification that the FBI needs to invade an American citizen’s phone calls, text messages, and emails without a warrant. And yes, it’s actually on the honor system and we’re supposed to trust that the FBI would never do anything unethical or illegal or dishonest to advance its own interests.

The FISA spying system also allows the FBI to make up to six “hops” from the initial American that they’re surveilling. That’s how they were able to justify spying on every member of Donald Trump’s family and his entire campaign during the 2016 presidential election when the FBI was trying to get their girl Hillary elected.

The FBI lied to a FISA court to obtain a warrant to spy on Trump campaign associate Carter Page. Carter Page talks to another person on the campaign, that person talks to Steve Bannon, and then Bannon talks to Donald Trump, and the FBI is allowed to open all their emails, texts, and phone calls because of the warrant on Carter Page.

It’s so anti-American that it’s hard to believe any Republican would vote for it. But 126 of them just did.

Speaker Johnson had initially appeared open to revising FISA to require a warrant to spy on Americans. Then the FBI pulled Johnson into one of its infamous “classified briefings” and Johnson was suddenly in favor of everything that the FBI wanted. We have no proof of this, but we’re guessing that the “classified briefing” involved a high-resolution video of Speaker Johnson with a small child, a male escort, or some type of farm animal.

The only reform of FISA that happened this week was a special carveout that Members of Congress received for themselves. If the FBI starts spying on a Representative or a Senator, they’re required to notify that member and congressional leadership. So, they get a special notice if the FBI begins spying on them—but you don’t, and Donald Trump doesn’t. Must be nice.

88 Republicans and 59 Democrats voted against reauthorizing section 702 of the FISA system. The final vote was 273 in favor and 147 opposed. 273 Members of Congress believe the FBI should be allowed to spy on you without a warrant—but not on them.

  1. It is long overdue to get “back to ‘norm'” in out country. Too bad we cannot go back to the end of WWII when We cared about our Country and each other. Everyone tried their best to be good to each other and, more importantly, themselves. We all took jobs and worked hard for a better future for ourselves and family. Nowadays it seems young people receive too much and do not appreciate it or themselves. How sad. Also caring about their country, each other and getting out to vote, seems to be on a back burner in lives today. How sad!

  2. Speaker Mike Johnson, I remember a song with the verse,’ see you later alligator’. When I think of you, I think of that tune! I wonder why? As Leader in the House, maybe you can lead us in the song for a few bars in a group sing, camp fire style! Reminder, careful with matches , you might just burn the House down .

  3. Democrats always want to lie do anything they can to hurt and rule Americans People. They take away from American People to give more to their illegal immigrants. They are doing anything to President Trump from running for election I wonder how money they are paying all people to lie. All I can say about Democrats they are all lier’s and thiefs

  4. When the democrat plantation overseers throws a couple scraps of food out to us field n!@@ers, we have to fight EACH OTHER to survive. Exactly what government wants.

  5. It is sad that the one organization that should be for investigating corruption turns a blind eye to just about anything the Democrats do. They did nothing with the evidence of the deals Hunter pulled off and shared the money with his father Joe. Even recently they searched Joe Biden’s home and found boxes of secret papers in his house and garage. And at that time they were taken Joe was not President or even Vice President and yet they turned a blind eye to it. They raided Trumps home and found papers that he was going to turn them over like Obama and other EX-Presidents did, to the ex-Presidential records office. Most Ex-Presidents do use them to write their memoirs and then turn them in. I would not be surprised if those papers in Biden’s position were used to get the money Joe and Hunter got from the countries they dealt with.

  6. Apparently johnson is a liar ,an rino
I think that means demonrats have a friend to keep destroying this country
Sadd….johnson is not the person he says he is.
He probly isnt even a christian man..
Get rid of him. Just like mcCarthey…!!!!!
    Dont trust anybody these days….
The devils got everybody eatin out of his hand!!

  7. No surprise here; his prior voting record showed a RINO 1st class! They had 4 better options to choose, but picked the worst possible candidate, as usual! What are his “Christian” credentials? Lying isn’t a Christian trait!
