How The Border Wall Benefits America’s Economy

With President Donald Trump past his first 100 days in office, it is time to turn our attention to securing the border. But doing so will not only make America more secure. Erecting a large fence, wall or other massive structure at the United States border with Mexico will prove greatly beneficial to our economy.

Consider this fact: more than 90 million working-age Americans are unemployed. These individuals are in desperate need of work. Unfortunately, many open positions are provided to Mexicans who have illegally crossed the southern border.

It is time to put America first and hire legal citizens of the United States citizens rather than those who have entered the country illegally. The “America first” policy proposed by Donald Trump will return economic prosperity to the United States. Here’s why.

The Wall Will Eventually Pay For Itself

On its face, the proposed border wall seems like an expensive venture. The structure will likely span upwards of 2,000 miles, and cost tens of billions of dollars to construct. In addition, meaningful policing of the wall will require hundreds of millions more. After all, you can’t build a wall and expect it to keep all would-be immigrants out based on sheer size. Armed guards will be positioned at strategic positions.

Though it is possible that the United States will force Mexico to pay for the wall’s construction and policing through tariffs and other trade measures, it is highly unlikely that Mexico would willingly pay a single penny. Such a massive construction project will require a considerable spending of American tax dollars. However, It will be worth it in the end.

About 11 million undocumented immigrants have illegally entered the United States. A large portion of these undocumented individuals illegally crossed the southern border. As Trump has noted, most of these border- crossers are not doctors, lawyers or inventors. They have limited skills, struggle to speak fluent English and are not in a position to contribute to our economy in a meaningful way. These people have little to offer and plenty to gain by entering our land.

Consider the American tax dollars spent on the feeding and housing of such undocumented individuals. The typical American who works eight hours a day is paying the way for illegal immigrants’ food and shelter. This is a grave injustice that can no longer continue.

Some illegal Mexican immigrants have found work in the United States, but many pay no taxes as they work under the table. A large percentage of these undocumented individuals send the lion’s share of their earnings back across the border to provide for their family in Mexico. In the end, the aggregate economic impact of undocumented Mexicans in the United States is negative. Remove these illegal immigrants from the picture, and it is easy to understand why our economy would thrive.
The Wall Provides Hope for the Future

Imagine this: the year is 2020, and a gigantic wall has been erected between the United States and Mexico. Americans who are legal residents of the United States are given first dibs on open jobs. Wages rise as few illegal immigrants are available to accept peanuts for pay while working under the table. Tax revenue increases as more wages are taxed. The proceeds are used to pay for the wall’s construction and continual policing.

In such a future, Americans would no longer have to foot the bill for illegal immigrants’ food and shelter. Furthermore, the money earned in the United States stays in the United States rather than being sent back across the border to be spent in Mexico. This is the economic stimulus our economy desperately needs. This is how we will make America great again.

The Wall Will Force Mexicans to Apply for United States Citizenship

A Mexican who desires to live in the United States should only be considered for citizenship if he applies for citizenship if he applies through the proper channel.

If a prospective immigrant has developed highly-coveted skills or anything else of value to contribute to the United States economy, he might be provided with the opportunity to live and work in the land of the free. This is exactly how the immigration process functions in almost every other country. A border wall will make it happen here. Build it now and build it tall.
