Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell angered many Americans this week when he said President Joe Biden is not going to be impeached over his failed departure from Afghanistan. Instead, he encouraged Americans to use the “ballot box” to vote for new lawmakers.
From a purely political standpoint, McConnell isn’t wrong. Impeachment takes a massive number of votes in the House and Senate, and the votes simply aren’t there. That’s why many Republican leaders have instead called for Biden to resign. That’s simply the best that can be done unless a bunch of Democrats decide to abandon their party. However, it’s clear that McConnell’s passions don’t match that of his base.
Remember when Democrats tried to impeach Trump a second time after Jan. 6? They needed a bunch of votes from Republicans in the Senate to make it happen. They knew they didn’t have the votes, but pushed for it anyway, apparently just to keep the story against Trump going.
With the current Senate a 50-50 tie, there’s no chance impeachment would happen. And that’s if it got through the Democrat-controlled House, which is not likely either. As we said, however, this didn’t matter to Democrats that were playing to win.
Conservatives are fed up with Biden, and impeachment is simply not a workable strategy at the moment. But a massive midterm turnover is. The path to limiting Biden’s power and eventually removing him is through flipping the House and Senate to Republican power during the 2022 midterm elections.
That’s why even former President Donald Trump is focusing on this strategy at the moment. Yes, he attacks Biden and keeps hinting at a 2024 run. Yes, he has said Biden should resign in disgrace. But when it comes to actions, Trump wants what other conservatives want – power in Congress to stop Biden’s bad policies. Once that takes place, then the next step would be moving forward with a 2024 campaign.
But for Trump and many other conservatives, simply putting Republicans in control is not enough. Those in control need to actually be true conservatives. Ten GOP House members voted to impeach Trump, as well as a few Senators, such as Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski. Trump already has plans in the works to primary her.
In the House, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is one of conservativism’s major targets. She is clearly anti-Trump and even joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 select House committee. Along with Cheney, Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger is on the list for removal, as he too voted for Trump’s impeachment and has joined Pelosi’s group.
McConnell himself may be at risk of not being reelected next time around. But since he was just reelected, he won’t be out of office until 2027 under normal circumstances.
But nothing is normal about the current circumstances. When some conservatives are talking about taking the House and making Trump the House Speaker and Congressmen are flying to Afghanistan to free Americans, there is no longer business as usual.
McConnell may be right about his statement, but there’s much more happening at the moment. Conservatives are about to make a massive comeback, and he needs to get on board before he misses the train.

At the opening of the January Republican National Committee meeting in Charleston South Carolina Wednesday, the RNC Resolutions Committee was forced to vote on a RNC Resolution known as the Agema Resolution, supporting the proper Impeachment of Barack Hussein Obama for his many crimes of treason, tyranny and treachery against the United States and the people.
The nine member Resolutions Committee chaired by Carolyn McLarty of Oklahoma, voted unanimously to kill the Agema Resolution in committee, preventing the full body of the RNC from ever having a vote or voice on the measure in the full meeting scheduled for Friday January 15.
Not one member of the RNC Resolutions Committee supported the Agema Resolution to impeach what is admittedly the most impeachable administration in U.S. history. Not even known acts of treason and tyranny by the Obama Administration, not the Iran deal, or even Obama’s recent unilateral gun grab EO (Executive Order) just a week ago, was enough to cause the leadership of the Republican Party to support a resolution on impeachment.
