President Donald Trump is easily the most anti-war/pro-peace commander-in-chief we’ve have had in the last 100 years — certainly since Jimmy Carter. The important difference between the two being that Carter made a number of strategic mistakes that made the U.S. look weak and encouraged aggressions against us. Trump has, most decidedly, not done that.
Trump ran on the promise to get our troops out of the Middle East, where they have been killing and dying for nearly two decades now. While he has not managed to do this completely, he has gone farther than anyone else has, and certainly done much better than Hillary Clinton would have done.
Considering the heavy presence of warmongers in Washington, this is an enviable accomplishment. Most rational analysts estimate that by this time, Clinton would have had us in several wars with a list of countries including Russia and China. Almost certainly, one or more of those wars would involve a nuclear exchange.
It is also true that the possible incoming, however illegitimate, Biden administration will operate under the same ideological framework as Clinton and Obama. Biden is also an alumnus of the most bloodthirsty administration in history, the Obama administration.
Now, Retired Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin, a former commander of Central Command and Silver Star recipient for actions during the Iraq war, is on the list to be the nation’s first Black secretary of defense, according to Military.com. It is anticipated that Austin’s confirmation process will be a highly contentious one. The Biden team has selected Austin based on the request of a number of California Democrats that someone with “no prior employment history with a defense contractor” be appointed.
While Austin is being placed on a shortlist of candidates, he is the only one whose sole apparent qualifications are a lack of experience with military contractors and also his status of being an African American.
It is disturbing that a potential secretary of defense should be moved to the head of any list on the basis of multiculturalism and inexperience.
We have a well-established tradition in this country of celebrating the achievements of those who are perceived to be a member of an underdog class. This is good and acceptable. But this type of affirmative action hiring is increasingly coming with the caveat that said affirmative action hires also lack competence.
Last year, we saw a rash of air traffic controllers hired on the same basis, and the results have been terrifying.
What can be said about such hires is that they would be easy to control by bad actors behind and within the administration. Perhaps this is the real reason he has been chosen. Hopefully, the Supreme Court will remedy the election fraud issue, and we will never have to find out what horrors Austin will do in Biden’s name.
