Sen. Kamala Harris’ revelation that she owns a handgun for personal safety reasons has freaked progressive activists out.
At least one liberal journalist is stating that her gun ownership should disqualify her from running for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2020. While other Democrats are coming to Sen. Harris’ rescue by pointing out that her gun ownership is entirely justified, the unease over the whole issue reveals a few startling facts about the progressive wing of the Democratic Party that should not be ignored.
It isn’t hard to see why progressives would view Sen. Harris as a hypocrite for owning a personal firearm. After all, Sen. Kamala Harris has made gun control a central focus of her platform. She has vowed that, if she becomes president, she will take executive action against gun sellers unless Congress repeals the Protection of Commerce in Arms Act. The PCOAA is the law that allows regular individuals and hobbyists to sell guns without conducting a background check, and Sen. Harris is vowing that she will prosecute those who lawfully sell arms under this law unless they submit to her Draconian demands.
The senator has also promised to use executive action to enforce a ban on the sale of “assault weapons” even though she has failed to define which firearms would fall under this category.
Given the fact that Sen. Harris seems to be the “anti-gun” candidate of the Democrat Party, it is surprising that she owns her own firearm unless one considers the fact that she was a former prosecutor and actually needed one. This simple fact is easy enough to understand for anyone who owns a firearm; personal safety is the most common reason people buy guns in the first place. However, the fact that Sen. Harris’ gun ownership is even an issue is alarming because it shows that progressives aren’t just against certain types of firearms or the sale of firearms to the wrong people. They are in fact against any type of gun ownership even though many won’t come out and actually say so.
Another problem is that, as one astute journalist points out, progressives who say that Sen. Harris can’t be president because she owns a gun are essentially saying that Democrats have to adhere to every single standard they set in order to be embraced by the party. By this same reasoning, a female Democratic politician who gets pregnant and choses to have her child rather than abort it would not be a suitable candidate for office. The same could be said of Democrat politicians who opt to marry a partner of the opposite sex instead of a same-sex partner.
The truth of the matter is that the DNC, as of yet, does not officially support a ban on all gun ownership, so candidates who own a gun should still be allowed to run for the nomination.
Progressive ire over the fact that one of their own is not only running for office but also owns a personal handgun is absurd yet scary at the same time. It paints a clear picture of where the far-left wants to take the country should one of their own ever win a presidential election. While Sen. Harris’ platform and policies leave much to be desired, her responsible ownership of a personal handgun for safety reasons shouldn’t be an issue to anyone who has the least bit of common sense. But — it is for the far-left.

Ownership of a firearm is not at all inconsistent with the Progressive philosophy of government. Harris is not a member of the Proletariat. The only two classes recognized by Marx were the Working class and the Ruling class. The laws created by the Ruling class for the control and management of the Proles do not apply to the Ruling Elite. As was patently evident during the Obama regime.

Let’s forget “the gun” for a second …. She had very little of my interest to begin with … now she has even less, for her boorish behavior is standing in the way of any focus I would direct her way. Yet, if Kammie is wanting to rekindle that interest, I suggest she ditch the boring muted-color pantsuits, and opt for a dress here and there ….or maybe a bikini shot or two from the beach …… anything to get me and some of my cronies to NOTICE her again.

Blah, blah, blah, so fucking what that she owns a gun. Here in NH and VT gun ownership is not a big deal and many libs, dems, progressives own and carry. We still want some regulation and education of new gun owners.
Actually this may be very positive for the Democrats. If you own a gun you can’t run. It will help to winnow out a very overpopulated field.
Don’t think that Bernie Sanders, AOC, et al, don’t have security people or bodyguards carrying also. As stated above, it is classic hypocrisy. One set of rules for them and a different set of rules for everyone else. We need to be extremely wary of the progressive/socialist agenda and those who ascribe to it.
Personally, I don’t think she has even a SLIM chance of being the party’s nominee. Every one of them is trying to outdo the rest of them, just to get noticed and to pull away from the rest of the crowd. Right now, it’s hard to say what’s going to happen, but just wait a few weeks until the fire starts to fly! Then, you’ll see them start to flame out and fall by the wayside. Whoever survives will have to come up with some real policy positions to have a chance against Donald Trump. It will have to be in some area where he has not already made improvements, and those are few and far between!

It appears that some of your readers want to label Dems as hypocrites, but it seems that Dems aren’t cooperating very much, so instead let’s invent an issue and call it hypocrisy. There is no hypocrisy in owning a gun while wanting gun control. A bit of Hypocrisy 101: hypocrisy would be owning a gun and opposing others from having one. I know of no liberal who maintains that position. A bit of Gun Control 101: refers to such things as full background checks and preventing the sale of military style weapons to the public. Gun control does not include preventing a gun for self-protection…or for hunting.
