New York Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, dubbed by many on the left as the future of the Democratic Party, will have to delay moving to Washington, DC because the rent is too expensive.
Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, became a left-wing media darling during the run-up to the 2018 midterm elections held earlier this week. By succeeding a moderate Democrat in a deep-blue district in one of America’s bluest of states, her electoral victory was all but assured as soon as she staged her upset during the primary season. At 29, she is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
Despite her easy election win, Ocasio-Cortez had to put her political revolution on pause after finding out that she wasn’t going to be paid by the taxpayer upfront.
“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?” the millennial told the New York Times.
There is a lot of irony to enjoy here, but Ocasio-Cortez’s financial struggles are understandable considering her last occupation was bartending. No, really — that’s what she was doing before she decided to become the next Bernie Sanders. This, she says, is part of the system designed to keep the people down — or something.
There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.

Ocasio-Cortez signaled support for considerably far-left policy proposals during the campaign season. The New Yorker has called for a single-payer healthcare system, placing much heavier taxes on the rich, and fully funding college tuitions. Her campaign follows the failed presidential bid of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in 2016, which enjoyed significant millennial support.
When challenged to defend her radical beliefs, Ocasio Cortez has continually dodged difficult questions. Even CNN’s Jake Tapper simply gave up asking her just how much higher taxes would have to be to fund her fantasy welfare state. She also accused conservative commentator Ben Shapiro of “cat-calling her” after being invited to debate him.
So, future Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will have to wait a couple of months before finding an apartment. Maybe she can crash at Bernie’s place?

3) GET A PART TIME JOB, maybe tending bar! After all, you have more experience at BAR-TENDING than at preparing to be a Congressperson. And there are LOTS of bars on Capitol Hill. If you don’t want to be a bartender again, try Christmas sales at Macy’s.
4) Stay in New York and let your newly appointed staff (I assume you’ve had the sense to HIRE a couple off reliable people) interview for you, or do it by phone. It’s a bit awkward, but your lefty supporters will probably understand.
