The already struggling NBA and MLB are having an even harder time getting people to watch games after both organizations embraced the far-left’s constant political messaging. If ratings are any indication, viewers want more sports and fewer lectures with their ball games.
Both baseball and basketball returned to television after being on extended breaks due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Like many industries, professional sports saw cancellations, reschedulings and a change in the way business works during the outbreak, but the return to television has been less than a triumph.
Despite being two of the nation’s largest professional sports organizations, both the NBA and major league baseball have struggled as they return to the broadcast schedule. The problem is not a lack of interest in sports, experts agree, but an intensive focus on becoming “woke” – a focus few viewers seem interested in.
Both sports returned to airwaves with an intensive focus on not sports or players, but protests. Black Lives Matter in particular captured the hearts of the leagues and players. From statements, signs and physical protests, this movement was very visible during televised games – the politics have spread to social media during, before and after games as well. While players and a small group of activists support this new, co-opted version of the games, few regular viewers do, and the numbers are beginning to tell the tale.
Even before the dramatically reduced 2020 season began, sports reporters and publications began honing in on seemingly everything except for actual athletics. Player activism started to get more screen time than sports analysis. Apparently, this was part of an effort to keep an aging industry relevant.
In contrast to predictions, though, both leagues have struggled to find an audience for televised games, and numbers remain below pre-pandemic results, despite a lot of hype and advertising.
Sports Media Watch referred to the opening of the major league baseball season as “weak” – and basketball didn’t fare much better. With an average of just over 1.5 million viewers, the NBA continues to struggle weekly – baseball has dropped below that viewer figure in many of the recently televised games.
The plunging ratings coincide with an increase in focus on protests from signs and symbols worn on jerseys during official play to players who kneel during the national anthem — viewers simply are not tuning in to the new, improved “woke” version of these sporting events.
While ratings continue to fall, reporting continues to focus on the protest and messaging, instead of the games themselves. In some cases, players and team officials are chastising viewers for failing to tune in for the messages. As a result, more and more viewers are opting to watch something other than one of these professional sports outings — and the ratings continue to reflect this growing trend.
Will the NBA and major league baseball recognize that many viewers are tuning in not for a lecture or message, but for the game itself? As the 2020 season struggles on, it remains to be seen.
It is time to abolish NFL NBA and MLB along with the BLM Marxist group and start boycotting those Businesses that have supported and donated and begged BLM please don’t hurt us.
I support PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Asso) and PBR (Professional Bull Riders) I might be wrong but, I have never seen any kneeling or disrespect at any of these events. The same can be said for local and regional events involving these activities. You see pictures of little cowboys having put his pop corn down and standing with his hat over his heart during the National Anthem – a really really good thing.
My husband and I used to watch NFL, NBA, and MLB, plus college sports. We quit the NFL the first time a knee hit the ground during the National Anthem. Sadly, especially for me, because I absolutely loved the Utah Jazz, we will no longer be watching NBA or MLB. We’ll hang in there with college sports until they, too, cave to the pressure to be politically correct, or whatever they call it nowadays. Right now, we watch PRCA and PBR. We both rodeoed in our younger days and I still compete. The level of patriotism and respect is second to none. The announcers, the fans, the athletes, and the sponsors are not afraid to stand up for God and country. Each event is started with prayer and the National Anthem and even the youngest contestants and fans know to bow heads and put hats over heart.
My husband and I used to love pretty much all sports…barBQ, drink a beer and watch the games….don’t do that anymore and won’t go back until it gets back to how it used to be. All of you ATHLETES don’t matter anymore. You’ve all turned into these crybaby punks…go away or shut the hell up and play the game that you’re paid these wonderful dollars for. OPPRESSED???? give me a break!!!! Oh…and stand tall and strait for the National Anthem and our flag…..remember???? Remember this country, USA…that gave you the opportunity to be great. Remember????? Automobiles, cookies, drinks, beer, clothes…..and to make it clear and plain te WHY their sales have fallen through the floor. Remember …it is middle America…the middle America under attack by these racist Marxists/communists/Democrat/liberal pukes.Middle America is the group that pays these outrageous salaries of these prima donna sports figures.Let them discover that it is Middle America that pays them to entertain us for incredible wealth, as opposed to giving them $12 an hour to bag groceries.

Ive had it with pro athletes and all their crap. They make big money because they are good at what they do and because true fans appreciate such. But: they have crossed the line in a big and bad (for them and owners) way.

This country is pretty much split in half – ANYONE who depends on public support and alienates half of their fans is an idiot – that equates to minimum of a self inflicted 50% pay cut. That means the owners of these teams are suffering a 50% loss as well. At what point does that 50% loss make it to where it does not pay to own a team anymore? There is a hell of a lot of overhead. Also add all the social distancing laws/rules in effect. They can’t make money at these huge arenas like that – they not only have no asses in the seats at the games – but they cannot hold concerts or other events either right now – they are tanking. Same goes for the malls that were already in dire straits. Movie Theatres – we could wake up to all of these things gone.
People that put together tv packages would do well to bring out one with no sport channels at all. Sign me up when one appears. This would drop the cost and channel surfing would be enhanced. Sport announcers could stroke each other and not bother the American public.

I am a huge baseball fan, but when I saw what happened on opening night of the season, with all the kneeling and pandering to the BLM cult, I haven’t watched a single minute of the season, and if this goes into next season, they have lost me FOREVER!

Just happened to be eating at a sports bar the other day and glanced at a game with all this BLM. nonsense on their shirts. Then the next T.V. over it showed rioters with BLM. signs burning down someones business in Portland. On another T.V. a black politician talked about black lives matter.
5 min. later it showed 89 black lives shot 38 killed in 2 days in Chicago, all shot by blacks. I guess blacks dont respect other black lives ? If they don’t then who else should ? 60 % of all the violent crime is committed by blacks yet only 16 % of the country is black. 10 % of all black men are in prison on any given day. Hum. The NCAA should file a federal lawsuit for lake of racial disparity.

The day and age of traditional households with strong male figures and smart strong woman being around seem like a life time ago,broken homes are encouraged,God has been removed from the life of our youth to support things that go against christianity or religion in general.Now with the things that are happening in this moment we are all unknowingly responsible for,thinking that certain change could be good.As of right now schools are forcing parents to sign an agreement to not sit in on virtual schooling at home nor can they record or review.Can anyone explain why? Are our kids gonna be taught something so gut wrenching that their afraid the parents will completely lose it.white kids may come home hating their parents or maybe taught to hate themselves or feel guilty based on race.The best was a 5 year old goes to school,says hes a girl,the teachers and students will identify the little boy as a girl from that point forward and the teachers do not inform the parents and in fact keep it from them.why would a parent not be allowed to sit in,its a question all parents should be terrified about.if over 20 yrs ago an agenda was put in place and this country is in the shape it’s in from those kids that are grown up now what will our youth today be learning and how will this country look 20 plus years from now,think about that for a min.This goes far beyond sports,media,racist organizations or he said she said rhetoric. Steve, You are spot on!! For the record my children are adults now. I have two wonderful grandchildren. I have to say that NO ONE will tell me that I cannot be present while my child or grandchild is being taught anything! I also believe that with all that is going on in our public schools that maybe cameras in the schools might be a good idea and without a doubt, school choice!. These are our children! They are to educate them and treat them respect for all and values while they are in their care, not propaganda. I had no idea that this was going on in our school systems until recently. Obviously, we trusted these people too much! It is such a shame that an entire generation has been lost to Godlessness, hate, anger and complete dislike for themselves and their country. They are just totally LOST!
My husband and I also will no longer watch these spectacles of degradation(NBA, NFL, etc). If they think that we are going to fall in line with this disrespect, they are woefully wrong. I hate cancel culture radicalism, but they have all been cancelled by us! Better to enjoy more fun family time!
From the time I read Milton Friedman’s excellent presentation of the concept of vouchers, and parents being in 100% contro of the educational funding for their child, I have been an ardent, vocal and dedicated promoter of Vouchers. Takes school boards OUT. Takes teacher’s unions OUT. Takes unresponsiveness OUT. The best teachers would be paid the most. The best schools would prosper. and the greatest number of schools from which to choose would be in urban neighborhoods. Parents could force themselves into the administration as watchdogs to prevent the graft, blackmail and corruption.
We are responsible for housing our children. For feeding them. For clothing them. For socializing them. For teaching them to drive. We teach them how to respect one another. What is the justification for precluding parents from being the decision makers in education?
Consider: I want to start a scxhool….9-12 grades, inclusive. Say, 1600 students …or 400 per grade. Each child is education budget is somewhere around $10,000. For each child…..year after year….. $16,000,000 a year …every year.
I could get a school building and gym,ball fields, locker rooms, auditorium, provide sports equipment and musical instruments. I could make sure any under=privileged child would be provided with ALL school supplies, a laptop, school uniforms ( with shoes) that the students KEEP when they graduate. Breakfast AND lunch provided for free for those in need. After school food and activities. Transportation from home to school and from school to home….REGARDLESS of the time.
There would be discipline, and parents would be required to participate One day a month, and would receive pay, if needed, to be a hall monitor, or rest room monitor, or behavior monitor…with 100% and total power to make the decision to expel a student on the spot, to be escorted off the campus. Parental /staff meeting would be required before reinstatement. Parents AND children would sign contracts.
All the text books, which would NOT be ordered through the present corrupt system.
( Obama gave Pearson Publishing the contract for ALL textbooks across America….worth Billions. Then , when he got out, Penguin Publishing gave him the biggest book deal in history …$65 million. Guess who owned Penguin at that time? Yes….Pearson owned Penguin…)
I would GUARANTEE any child would be educated OVER the minimums required by the state. Tutors would be automatically assigned to any student who got a “C”.
The children graduating from this school would have grades making them eligible, grade wise, to attend college….and to actually be prepared for the self-discipline college requires.
I would also provide “skill” shops…auto repair, construction, computer repairs and programming.
Our school would field football, baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, band, choir and debate teams, among others.
Corporeal punishment would be forbidden. Suspension and expelling would be our nuclear options…and no refunds……
Parents would meet with teachers as groups and one on one. Monthly. Problems would be identified , and a course of action agreed upon.
Al this…and more. And I would make a handsome profit, pay teachers well, certainly better than they are now.
A student , at the discretion of anyone in administration or teacher, could be immediately punished by removal. There would only be a warning if the school official thought it best.
Students would be required to volunteer one day a month ( with there being 20 on every volunteer group). Their job would be to remove cigarette butts, graffiti, vandalism, or report ANYTHING out of the normal operations.Four times cycled through the student body…meaning 4 days every school year, would give the school coverage 320 school days. Some days, after Prom, let’s say, or a big game or competition and celebration that would follow, we would put 2 or 3 teams to work .
Excellent students who qualified as being proficient in tutoring, would be assigned a single student on the edge of falling behind. That is a single “C”. We would have at least 2 full-time school psychologists to counsel these teenagers through a very very difficult time in their lives.
NO STUDENT would be in need or want. Meals, uniforms, school supplies, laptop, limited use mobile phones (programmed to our own standards as to use and certain “words or phrases”.
Their uniforms would ALWAYS be clean and pressed. Both the equipment and place to wash, dry, iron and fold would be provided. If needed the school would see to it, depending on circumstances.
THIS…and more….I could give you if I were given $16,000,000 a year, year in year out and 1600 students.Guaranteed. Their progress would be constantly monitored. Testing often. At the end of the school year , every student would be at or better than the minimum imposed by the state.

Hi,ty for your response.unfortunately whats being said is if parents are caught sitting in,child protective services amongst social workers will come to your house and remove our children from the house,now I’m not sure if it’s taking them from the parents indefinitely but it will cancel out virtual teaching for that individual and force the kids to go back to school where the parents are restricted from sitting in class.

I try to get in a short workout at the gym everyday, usually watching the captions on Fox News. Yesterday for some reason the feeds were out for it and some other channels. My choices for entertainment were CNN and a couple of other worthless channels. I got on a machine in front of the LA/Portland MBA game and watched until I saw some idiot player with a “JUSTICE…” message on the back of his jersey. Stomach churning…these morons know nothing about justice. I cut my workout to just over 2 minutes and left, hoping the feeds will soon be fixed. I’m really getting sick of this idiocy.
