No, we’re not being hyperbolic — we’ve literally approached the point where some of the most common and innocuous phrases you can think of are, as the feminists are fond of saying, “problematic.”

In a new video that’s made its viral rounds through Facebook, Twitter, and every other social media platform, left-leaning clickbait content creator NowThis makes the case that using the word “guys” to describe a group of people is sexist. Because “guy” refers to males, and using “guys” to describe a group of people that may include women (or those mysterious beings with a “third gender”), adheres to a male-dominant culture.
We’re not kidding.
“At first glance, ‘guys’ seems inviting, friendly, maybe warm. But, it, like many male-default terms, should not be normalized as an all-encompassing phrase — innocent as it may seem,” the video’s presenter says. “While we may understand the word means no real harm, with a deeper look, you’ll understand that we’ve been ignoring the cognitive impact on women as well as gender non-conforming folks.”
We should note at this point that English speakers are far form the only folks in the world that use a “male-default” term to refer to a group of people. Any one of our readers who has taken a class in Spanish, French, or any other Latin-derived language knows that gender is extremely prevalent in other parts of the world. Really, English is quite progressive in that sense — if we have to call it that.
Yes, this is one of those cultural “hot takes” that makes the far-left truly insufferable to even debate or be around. These are the same people that will accuse us of “mansplaining” just for pointing out how unproductive and dumb this is.
