The Democrats are doing everything in their power to hide the truth about the impeachment hearings from the public, and even their own Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives.
However, if the House votes to impeach the president, the trial moves to the Senate. At that point, the Senate can not only expose everything that has happened behind closed doors — and call witnesses. Former Vice President Joe Biden and his profiteering son Hunter would be at the top of the list, and the televised spectacle could very well wreak total havoc on the former VP.
Democrats in the Senate are in the minority, and would not be able to do much to stop Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell from deciding on the trial rules for the impeachment process. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has already made it clear that the whistleblowers would need to testify publicly. He has also noted that Rep. Adam Schiff would be called in due to the fact that he has repeatedly lied about his interactions with the first whistleblower.
It’s not hard to see why the former Vice President and his son would be called in as well. There is abundant evidence that the only reason Hunter Biden was given a lucrative job with a Ukrainian energy company was the fact that his father was the vice president of the United States. The younger Biden had no qualifications or past experience that would have led to the job.
The senior Biden is on record stating that he got a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Hunter Biden’s employer removed by threatening to withhold aid from Ukraine. Given the fact that the entire impeachment investigation is related to President Trump’s handling of the Bidens’ potentially criminal actions, it would be easy to see why the men would be expected to testify.
How well the Bidens would perform remains to be seen. The former Vice President is extremely gaffe-prone. The mainstream media has cut him a great deal of slack; however, an official impeachment trial conducted by the opposing party won’t be as forgiving.
What can be said for certain is that the Ukraine scandal has already taken a toll on the former Vice President’s presidential campaign. While news outlets are making a big fuss over the fact that a growing number of Americans support impeaching the current president, polls show that a growing number of voters also support an investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden’s dealing with Ukraine and China. Furthermore, nearly one in four poll respondents recently noted that, as a result of the Ukraine scandal, they would be less likely to vote for the former Vice President than they would have otherwise.
Given the fact that the Democratic Party hates President Trump with a passion, it is not hard to see why they are eager to use any pretext possible to impeach him. However, it is clear that the party hasn’t thought through the potential consequences. If the president is impeached in the House of Representatives, he would have to be tried in the Senate in order to be removed from office. The Senate trial, unlike impeachment proceedings in the House, is completely outside of Democratic control. Senate Republicans can call any witnesses they want, and those witnesses would be legally compelled to testify. This can only end in a win for the GOP.
