The Democratic Party is Disowning Any and All of its Pro-Life Members

Democrats take pride in proclaiming that they are tolerant of people with differing opinions; however, their efforts to destroy the career of one of their own congressmen shows that “tolerance” in the party is only acceptable if one adheres to a rigid ideology.

Rep. Dan Lipinski, one of the few pro-life Democratic Party members left, doesn’t meet far-left standards, and so senior party members and Democratic politicians running for president are doing everything possible to replace him with a progressive, far-left activist who may not even be able to win the general election in his district.

The move is a telling one given the fact that senior DNC leaders told upstarts in 2018 that the Democratic Party would not back challengers to incumbent politicians. Nonetheless, there is no shortage of prominent Democrats crawling out of the woodworks to endorse Marie Newman in her race to unseat Rep. Lipinski, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Cheri Bustos is refusing to stand by his side.

Some of the many Democrats who are backing Marie Newman include Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Washington Governor Jay Inslee and leading progressive congressman Rep. Ro Khanna. In their statements, it is clear that their primary reason for calling on voters to dump Rep. Lipinski is his pro-life stance.

In his statement, Sen. Sanders told prospective voters that Roe vs. Wade was under attack across the nation, and that they needed to do something about it by voting for a pro-choice candidate. Naturally, abortionist organizations such as Planned Parenthood, EMILY’s List and NARAL Pro-Choice America are all backing Newman.

Access to abortion (or the lack of it) isn’t the only issue at stake in the upcoming congressional race. Newman is a far-left progressive who wants to promote a progressive agenda that will wreak havoc on the economy. She is in favor of a $15.00 an hour minimum wage, plus regular cost of living increases of this wage. She wants to tax people who earn a considerable amount of money, actively support the Select Committee that wants to pass Green New Deal legislation, provide Medicare for All, offer college loan amnesty, restrict Second Amendment rights and support the Equality Act.

While the mainstream news media is also eager to support a politically correct female candidate over a white man who does not embrace infanticide, there are a couple of facts that many outlets aren’t pointing out. First of all, Newman tried to unseat Rep. Lipinski in 2018, and lost. She may have lost by a small margin (which apparently makes her a winner in today’s Democratic Party) but she still lost. The loss could be even worse this time as another Democrat challenger, Rush Darwish, is also aiming to unseat Rep. Lipinski.

Even if Marie Newman did win the primary, the odds of her winning the seat are slim as the district is a socially conservative one. However, it seems that issues such as winning a general election aren’t top priority for far-left activists.

In the end, the move to oust a sitting representative due to his conservative stance on a single social issue is almost certain to backfire against the party because, as Rep. Lipinski accurately points out, it will drive away socially conservative Democrat and independent voters. At the same time, it is also worth noting that the move sends a message to Democrat politicians who represent swing districts: they either need to go against the wishes of the people who voted for them, or risk losing DNC support.
