Recent days have unfolded in an unusual and disturbing way for Virginia, which came close to following New York in effectively legalizing the murder of infants. And President Donald Trump has clearly expressed his adamant support for the most helpless and vulnerable human beings.
This turn of events resulted from an interview in which Virginia Governor Ralph Northam spoke out in favor of late-term abortion and even infanticide.
“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable,” Northan said. “So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.”
Trump was quick to strongly denounce the horrible statements by Northam.
“I’m surprised that he did that, I’ve met him a number of times,” Trump told the Daily Caller. “I thought it was terrible. Do you remember when I said Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb? That’s what it is; that’s what they’re doing; it’s terrible.
Trump went on to say that the pro-life movement would rise up as a result of what the Virginia governor said.
“This is going to lift up the whole pro-life movement like maybe it’s never been lifted up before,” the president continued. “The pro-life movement is very much a 50-50, it’s a very 50-50 issue, actually it’s gained a point or two over the years.”
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, Northam’s communications director, Ofirah Yheskel, attempted to clarify the governor’s horrible comments that prompted nationwide outcry. But most people are not at all gullible enough to believe the explanations for a second. Ben Shapiro, the Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief, had one of the most brutally accurate takes on the bill the Virginia governor was pushing forward.
“This is pure infanticide,” Shapiro said. “It’s also an argument for eugenic murder (see his comments about deformities). Northam is specifically talking about delivering an infant alive and then asking the mother whether the infant should live or not. This is not an argument about the morning-after pill. It’s not an argument over whether a fetus feels pain. This is a statement that a fully formed infant, born alive, ought to be murdered if the mother says the infant ought to be murdered.”
What just happened in Virginia, only days after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed off on late-term abortion, was like a one-two punch. Let’s hope that the pro-life movement nationwide will truly be emboldened, as Trump said, and will take action to stop the barbaric and senseless killing of innocent human beings.
