President Donald Trump as well as the State Department has accused CBS News of intentionally misleading viewers via their report on the origins of COVID-19 on Sunday’s episode of “60-minutes,” where the network “failed to accurately portray” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s position on the issue.
The television show segment, which Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus alleged was deceptively edited, appeared to show Pompeo disagreeing with the Director of National Intelligence Office’s assessment that the virus was “not man-made or modified.” In addition, Ortagus said CBS also failed to air Pompeo’s comments during a briefing last Wednesday where he clarified his position on the issue.
Pompeo’s main point was to call out China for its obvious lack of transparency in the role it played in the spread of the coronavirus.
“This reporting — intending to deceive — seeks to obfuscate the Secretary’s core point: the Chinese Communist Party continues to refuse calls for transparency, thereby compounding its cover-up, and further risking American lives,” said Ortagus.
Ortagus also called out CBS for not including Pompeo saying there was no disagreement between him and Dr. Anthony Fauci, who said that “a number of very qualified evolutionary biologists” believe that the virus “evolved in nature and then jumped species.”
“There’s no separation,” Pompeo said in an interview last week. “We’re all trying to figure out the right answer. We’re all trying to get to clarity. There are different levels of certainty assessed at different places. That’s highly appropriate. People stare at data sets and come to different levels of confidence.”
In addition to the less than scrupulous editing done by CBS and the“60-minutes” team, the network also called the suggestion the coronavirus may have come from the Wuhan lab a “political disinformation campaign,” which is shoddy journalism at best. Since Trump has had enough harassment, lies, and sabotage from the media since he announced his run for the presidency, he has no tolerance at all for the lies and nonsense of today’s less than professional media outlets.
The president was not happy about the network’s sketchy editing job and accused CBS News and its ’60-minutes’ program of using its platform to “defend China.”
In true Trump fashion, the president then took to social media Sunday where he claimed the TV program is doing “everything within their power” to defend China and how it handled the pandemic. Trump posted that the virus was “inflicted” upon the U.S. and implied the network wants to do business with China.
“@CBS and their show, @60Minutes, are doing everything within their power, which is far less today than it was in the past, to defend China and the horrible Virus pandemic that was inflicted on the USA and the rest of the World. I guess they want to do business in China!” the president tweeted.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany joined in to support the president’s position.
“60 Minutes on CBS is the second example in 24 hours of completely dishonest editing, this time of @SecPompeo,” she posted. “CBS cut out the portion of Pompeo’s remarks where he clearly acknowledges that he agrees with the intelligence community assessment.”
It’s no wonder Trump has zero respect for most of the media today. It is made up of blatantly fabricated lies.

China being the major producer.
Not all products made in foreign nations are shoddy. When Chrysler sold out to a European nation the European made engines made their vehicles better.
The pandemic may destroy the nation, but it will not be because of the virus. It will because American businesses no longer produce their products in America. Without jobs in America, there are no wage earners to tax to regain financial revenue. Trump was 100% correct when he claimed US Manufacturing had to come back to America. Jobs is the ONLY reason Trump created one of the greatest economies in US history. If the US needs jobs to create revenue the US has a way to produce millions of jobs that in-turn will benefit ALL AMERICANS. US infrastructure is in need of a major face-lift. Our roads, our bridges(overpasses), and transportation needs to be upgraded for the 21st Century. Creating clean energy sources is very possible. Solar energy, wind driven energy, and the development of more efficient vehicle comes to mind. What about upgrading our Hydro-electric generators to be more efficient? The possibilities are endless. We already have the jobs available, we just need funding to create a workforce. Consider this: Where would America be without it’s roads and bridges?
