What’s Next for Formidable Nikki Haley

Perhaps the most formidable U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in history, Nikki Haley plans to exit her post at the end of the year, and that leaves many speculating on her next move.

Haley previously held top political offices that include being a member of the U.S. House, representing South Carolina’s 87th Congressional District, and served as governor before making a run at the GOP nomination for president. After dropping out to the surging campaign of now-Pres. Donald J. Trump, she backed the administration and was tapped to represent the nation in the world’s largest international diplomatic arena, the U.N.

Projecting Strength

Showing unwavering strength and American leadership at the U.N., Haley took no prisoners. She put rogue nations such as Iran and North Korea on notice that the Trump Administration would not tolerate even the appearance of aggression toward Americans.

These are some of the moments that highlighted the American toughness Haley brought to the world stage:

  • Syrian Chemical Weapons: Haley took Syria to task over the use of chemical weapons against civilian populations. She also called out Russia for backing the Assad regime as Pres. Trump launched missile attacks in response. After two strikes, Syria has not used illegal weapons since.
  • North Korea: Haley helped the Trump Administration rally foreign governments to throttle North Korea and bring the rogue regime into line with non-nuclear proliferation values.
  • Taking Names: In one of her more memorable moments, Haley put foreign leaders on notice that American generosity would no longer be extended to those who work against U.S. interests. She told the body she would be “taking names” on anti-American votes.
  • Standing With Israel: Although the Obama Administration had all but abandoned Israel, Haley showed the stark contrast of the Trump Administration. As U.N. diplomats aligned against the Jewish state, Haley pushed back against Palestinian aggression and let members know the U.S. would move its embassy to Jerusalem. The United States stood with Israel in word and deed.

With her impressive resume, outstanding accomplishments and reputation as a tough but fair leader, Haley could have any position she wants. Republican leaders have lined up to praise her accomplishments.

“Nikki Haley has set a new standard for what American leadership at the UN should look like,” House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Meadows reportedly tweeted. “She stood with our allies and held our adversaries accountable, even when it required standing alone on the world stage. We will miss her, but we are all better off thanks to her service.”

This begs the question: where Haley will land after leaving the U.N.?

Possible Landing Spots for Nikki Haley

Speculation about Haley’s resignation is being driven by mounting personal debt. Some sources estimate she has accumulated debt upwards of $1.1 million. Her office reports that her personal red ink stands at about $500,000. Although she holds one of the most prominent political posts in the world, the position reportedly pays a maximum of $187,000. Therefore, finances may have been a driver behind her resignation and future career.

  • Exotica International: A little-known fact about Nikki Haley is that her mother, Raj K. Randhawa, founded the international clothing business. Nikki worked at the outfit from the time she was 12 years old until becoming the company’s CFO before becoming governor of South Carolina. Her mother closed the prominent Midlands, South Carolina, shop in 2008. Haley could restart the family business that earned nearly $2 million annually.
  • Goldman Sachs: Early names floated to replace Haley included Dina Powell of Goldman Sachs. Her ties to Trump Administration officials such as H.R. McMaster and John Bolton made her a name worth following. Although Powell may no longer be under consideration, the Trump Administration appears to be a direct pipeline to Goldman Sachs. Trump affiliates who have worked at the Wall Street firm include advisors Steve Bannon, Gary Cohen, and Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin. Expect firms such as Goldman Sachs and others to court Haley.
  • Vice Pres. Nikki Haley: Although Haley has made reference to returning to the private sector, should Vice Pres. Pence not run on the 2020 ticket with Pres. Trump, Haley would overwhelmingly be the front-runner. Her pivotal leadership at the U.N., and popularity in battleground South Carolina could make her the first woman vice president in history. Nikki Haley will be a person to watch as the 2020 elections near.

  2. Personally, I believe this young woman would be a fantastic pick for Vice President of the United States in this next go round for 2020. Pence was a good choice for the first set, but having Nikki Haley on the ticket in 2020 would insure Republican success after President Trump does his 8 year run. Who better to move the Trump agenda forward than a Nikki Haley and as the very first female President, we would “FINALLY” have conservative, Constitutional, populist and common sense values back for another 8 years, “PLUS” having a Female Republican as the “FIRST” American President. That would be the greatest “AND” also have 16 years of conservatism for which I would be ecstatic, not to mention would solidify the populist message for at least another possible 8 to 10 years forward after that.
    Most important, once President Trump’s agenda can get moving after all of this swamp crap can be somewhat cleaned up in this next 4 year run in 2020, it would allow Ms. Nikki to finish cleaning up this swamp and finally have some common sense politics back. Yes that is hoping for a lot to happen in-between, but I’m an optimist! I can see the writing on the walls. My only problem with this hopeful situation would be is if the American people could see what I see, now! That Ms. Nikki Haley is indeed simply going to waiting in the wings, supporting President Trump where needed, but quietly campaigning in the forefront and background, and then he will spring this very likely pick when coming closer to the 2020 official run! Now “THAT” would be a fantastic symbol to run on in 2020. “AMERICA “IS” GREAT AGAIN – MIGA”, Period!

    1. Gary, good point about 2020 VP, prior to a 2024 run. I’m not crazy about Pence anyway. He’s acceptable, but not exciting. I’d like to see her get out of debt then get right back into the administration is some critical position.

  4. Nikki Haley never served in Congress. She served in the SC State House 87th district. South Carolina only has 7 Congressional Districts (and only had 6 back in those days). When you see a high district number like that it’s always state legislature; not even California has anywhere near 87 US House seats.

  5. I hate to see her leave. If the only reason she is leaving is due to debt, she could have opened a Go Fund Me account and raised the money she needed. Had she stayed, she would be a formidable 2024 candidate.

  7. How many of you KNOW what a “natural born citizen” is? One MUST be born on U.S. soil, to a citizen father and a citizen mother to be a natural born citizen. Her mother and father were not yet citizens when Nikki was born in Bamburg, SC! Obama was never eligible for POTUS, even if he had been born in the White House, simply because his Kenyan, British subject father was not a citizen. As a lifelong conservative Republican woman, I get angry ever time I see those who want to violate or ignore the natural born citizen clause of the Constitution! Birth on U.S. soil is not enough…that only makes one a “citizen” through the 14th Amendment. Having one citizen parent can make a child a citizen, but not a natural born citizen. If a child is born overseas to even TWO citizen parents, that child is a “naturalized by congressional statute” citizen, but not a natural born citizen! ONLY a child born on U.S. soil to a citizen father AND a citizen mother, is a natural born citizen and eligible to be president or vice president. Those are the only two offices that require one to be a natural born citizen! All other offices may be “citizens”, whether natural born, native born or naturalized. IF we, on the right, allow a non-natural born citizen to be POTUS or VP, as was done when Barack was “elected”, how do we ever challenge the next “usurper” the Democrats put forth?

    1. Sorry but you are incorrect. Natural Born Citizen is not defined in the Constitution, however, the 14th Amendment states in Section 1: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

      The Supreme Court referred to this in their ruling in the case of United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 US. 649, concluding that anyone born on U.S. soil and subject to its jurisdiction is a natural born citizen, regardless of parental citizenship. That now stands as the law of the land. Because she was born in this country, she is a Natural Born Citizen regardless of the Nationality of her parents.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger left politics. He cannot because he is not a Natural Born Citizen. Nikki
    Haley is not a Natural Born Citizen, therefore
    inrligible to be either POTUS or VP.
